Selecting the explosion?
Hi, I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to select the explosion. I want to adjust the color of the explosion so it is brown instead of greenish, but I want to leave the grass green. So I figured the only way to do that would be to put the explosion itself on a new layer and then adjust it separately. Unless there is an easier way! This is a scan from 35mm film, that I had a company do. I don't know why it turned out so green, none of the other ones did. I think they messed up somehow. I had to make the attachment smaller than the original file, which is about 2900 on the large side. This one is 500. ![]() |

I'm using photoshop 7 and used your image above to fix this. Try using the Curves and adjust the RGB, Red, and Green Channels. Thats all I did to fix this. I hope this is what you want to do. ![]() |

Re: Selecting the explosion?
I guess I'd better go back to the basics! I tried using curves, but somehow my result didn't look like yours! Curves always seems to elude me, it never works the way it does for everybody else. More practice, I guess. Do you by any chance know the settings you used (screenshot, perhaps?) Anyway, thanks for showing me how it can be done. |

Re: Selecting the explosion?
If Curves are getting the better of you, try using the black, white and grey point eye-droppers; they're perfect for removing colour casts such as this. Use the black point on the darkest area of the image. The white point should be the lightest; the explosion centre in this case. The midpoint should be something neutral; the clouds or the smoke are best to choose here. ![]() You can experiment with the grey point in different areas to change the richness of the tones. ![]() They work equally well in Levels and Curves. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Thank you. I think it is easier with the eyedroppers. |
