Controlled image warping
Hi Steve - I have a number of shots taken in London underground stations of shredded posters on the walls. Because of the conditions (hand-held camera, vertically curved tube walls) I get noticable distortion in the sides - the opposite of barrel distortion. (Pin cushioning? - just like when the centre of a monitor's image at either side bends in towards the middle.) Is there a simple, clean way to correct this? Also, what's your preferred method for correcting general perspective distortion, where the camera wasn't entirely face-on to the wall and sometimes wasn't 100% horizontal? (I tell you, those photos have to be taken in a hurry!) -Keith (yes, that Keith) ![]() |

Re: Controlled image warping
Pincushion distortion is really tricky to fix, even without curved walls. There are a couple of specialist plug-ins for doing the job, or if you're really brave you could try tiny amounts of the Pinch filter (or even negative values of the Spherize filter). General distortion is easily fixed with Perpsective Crop - and if you're based in England you may remember a feature I wrote on this in MacUser a short while ago. |
