A matter of brightness
I have just created a montage, which is intentionally dark - a view of a framed photo on a wall with a nasty 'blue flock' wallpaper but heavily shadowed. The problem is, on my PC, it looks fine but I know that as it is for a contest, it will be viewed on a variety of different systems. I viewed it as a Mac proof and it is way too bright and it seems to lose the 'dark ambience' but if I darkened it down, it would be way too dark on other PCs. Is there a compromise or is it unavoidable? _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

If you want to maintain image quality, it's largely unavoidable. But you could convert the image to index colour (web safe) which should increase fidelity - but at the expense of making the image look a bit nasty and pixellated. On the other hand, people set the brightness of their monitors in many different ways, so maybe you shouldn't take the apparent appearance on different platforms too seriously. The best way forward might be to brighten it up, but to increase the contrast of the shadows (rather than their overall depth). Would this work? |
