Vignette (Faded Edges)
I have been asked to a picture similar to this one:

Is there a way to get this perfect circle round a picture??

Thanks,
Lex

Re: Faded Edges
Well I'll Be Damned. That was easy. I figured it out.

I just selected the Circle.
I Feathered it at About 18 Pixels.
Then did CTRL+SHIFT+I to Invert the Selection.
Then Pressed Delete.

It was staring me right in the face.

And Now, If One of You Here Didn't Know How To Do It. Now You Do!

Re: Faded Edges
You'd be better off using a mask. You can alter the effect that way.

Re: Faded Edges
OK..

Open your kitchen (or whatever) image. Go to Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color. Click OK. Choose whichever solid colour you want - blue for the example.

You'll see two thumbnails, the one on the right is the mask. Use the elliptical marquee and make your oval selection. Go to Edit>Fill. Fill with black. Deselect (Ctrl/Cmd+D). Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Using this instead of feather means you can see the amount of feathering in real time.

You'll get the same effect but the advantage of doing it this way is you can alter it indefinitely. Double-click the left-hand thumbnail and you can change the colour. If you're not happy with the vignette (the feathered border) you can fill the mask with white and start again.

Hey .. That's a really good tip David ... I'd never seen a vignette done that way before.
