Matching colour
Hi everyone
I want to match the colour of the picture logo exactly to the pink type.
Is there a proper scientific way of doing this ie matching the RGB?

Thanks
Chris

Re: Matching colour
Hi Chris
I'm no scientist and I guess the experts would suggest a much smarter way however, my humble approach would be to ensure consistency between the text and the logo, even if the colour is not exactly as per the original text.

The gamma will affect the colour, so I copied the logo onto a new layer and desaturated it. I then used the eyedropper in the text toolbar to make the word 'Colour' in the same grey, so this matches the logo in tone.

I then selected the pink colour and having merged my new word and the logo onto the same layer, created a solid fill adjustment layer and clipped it to the merged layer. The blend was changed to colour mode. You could also use Hue and Sat set to colourise. A curves or levels adj layer within the same clipping group will allow you to lighten or darken the text to your liking.

As said, not scientific, but hopes this helps.

Nick

Re: Matching colour
Nick, that's genius.
I did it slightly differently: sampled colour with eye dropper to make the foreground colour, then de-satted the logo like you said, created a new layer above the logo layer, made a clipping mask, and filled it with the foreground colour. Fab!

I don't understand why you can't do it with an abject (eg logo) the same way you can with a type layer.

Thanks - this is a massive help.

Re: Matching colour
Great Chris
It just occurred to me that my idea may result in loss of sheen etc within any bevels, so would suggest applying the technique to flat artwork and then apply the style afterwards.

I hope this works for you.
