Marty, the lighting, DOF and focus are spot on. Accept a really large slap on the back for this one. ![]() |

Re: Back To Birds
OK Marty you get a slap on the back for this one.........but don't let it go to your head. I shot this Blue-Grey Tanager a couple of weeks ago when I was on holiday on Tobago and missing out on HTCIP. ![]() _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Re: Back To Birds
I echo the sentiments that these are all beautiful pictures. Mguyer you have Nikon D70s and I have Nikon D70 yet I have yet to take a photo quite as lovely as that I'm not sure if I've got the camera fully calibrated the way I want it, may I ask what settings you use if you have preset anything like Saturation, Colour Profile etc. I have mine set to Adobe1998 ICC Profile and Saturation set to normal and I mostly shoot in Aperture Priority Mode with a variety of lenses yet mostly my pictures come out rather dull and have to boost them in Camera Raw. |

Re: Back To Birds
Maiden, I shoot mostly in Program Mode with the following settings: ISO auto: off Long Exp NR: On Image quality: fine Image size: L ISO: 200 Color Mode: Ia(sRGB) Saturation: enhanced. I shoot in highest quality JPEG even though the gurus recommend RAW. In Photoshop I tend to increase saturation +10 and Unsharp Mask Amount 85 Radius 2 and Threshold 1. From what you are saying, try increasing the saturation in the camera. Hope this helps. Marty |

Re: Back To Birds
Thanks Mguyer I'll try that. BTW I keep wanting to call you Macgyver, you wouldn't happen to know how to make a powerful laser using just the sun, some convex mirrors and a camera lens in order to blow up a Russian Scud Launcher by any chance? lol ![]() |

Re: Back To Birds
If you are shooting in Raw I suggest that apart from Abode 1998, you clear all camera settings. You can make far better decisions that the camera can about what to do with your images. It is also better to have the whitebalance set to daylight, rather than auto. This way all photos in a set will look the same and will need the same correction in camera raw. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: Back To Birds
Thanks Vibeke - that's good solid advice. Yes I mostly boost my picture through Camera Raw anyway I'd not really given any thought to Auto White Balance I think mines always set to Cloudy as unlike you Vibeke I live in a dull, dull, dull, a bit dim, but mostly dull country ![]() |

Re: Back To Birds
Love the pics I also use the Nikon 18 - 200 mm VR (with a D40) and I think it works great! Mguyer, have you thought about the D90, I've heard good things about it. Maiden, I also find auto white balance works for me. Although If there was a special Grey setting for Manchester I'd proberbly use that! |
