Does this look convincing as an old photo?

Does this look like it might really be from 1910?

Not bad. A little sharp though. Maybe a subtle bit of gaussian blur?

I think that the sign and its post to the right of the boat is not 1910'ish and I would question the style of the benches in the background.

I followed a few steps from the book.

Interesting - it's got all the right elements, in terms of composition, creases, sepia colouring and so on, but there's something that doesn't quite look old and worn there. Hmm… I can feel a Friday Challenge coming on…

Nice job Rufus. I've not got that far in the book yet. Your creases look authentic.

If any one is interested here is the original photo that I took on Sunday

That's a very nice photo as it is.

Let us know what camera, exposure and resolution you used and if you have done any manipulation on it in Photoshop.

The Benches in the background are too modern

That is straight from the camera. Just resized down to roughly 800x600 for posting.

I took it on a Canon 1Ds at f/11 1/50"

The original size is 4064x2704

It was really cold and I wanted some frosty photos, but it was quite misty too.

Re: Does this look convincing as an old photo?
I thought the picture was taken by someone with a decent camera but wow, 11MP resolution that's a fantastic camera!

Ive just bought an Olympus C8080, 8MP which is great. I can see the difference between this and my Sony W12, 5MP which also takes excellent pictures.

Just one question, did you use a tripod? If not you did well to get away with 1/50" in those conditions.

Oh yes. I used my tripod for all my shots that day. It was very dull

Sorry but I've been offline for a while; so, I just came across this thread—one of over 600 messages waiting my attention—and could not help responding to it. I believe that one of the main characteristics of the 19th century imagery is the purityand elegancy of that century's style of appearance that predominantly prevailed at that time. Everything looked rather neatly and meticurously pure, especially dress and hair syles. The dominant mage of the boat in the foreground and the wooden bench seem to belong to a much later period but an introduction of human figures with true 19th century fashion and hair stlye and a bench with metallic ornamental hand rests instead of an all wooden one might do the trick. Just have a look at photos and movies from those days and you'll get the idea. Best of luck.
