Bit if Fun rediscovering animation after long break

Totally meaningless animation as a bit of fun using vector shapes, Layer Effects, Sliding Layer Mask etc.

Got a bit rusty after taking such a long break from doing any Photoshop but thanks to David (I hadn't realised the new Timeline Animation Frame could be switched back to the ImageReady Frame Style one I'm used to) I had a little play with a short pointless animation - hope you enjoy if for nothing more than a bit of fun

Hi Becky,
I always enjoy doing 'pointless'. You always learn so much from a couple of hours just playing.
Love the monster.

Hi maiden (or may i call you becky too ?)

if there a big difference in the timeline version then ?
also tell me about vector shapes, as in did you physically draw them or are they already pre-made shapes ?

By the way what does vector and raster mean ?

sorry to fire so many questions at you but i know you know alot about this subject.

Firstly Progenic of course you can call me Becky.

The Timeline version is more for Video Editting, the Frames version is a lot easier for gif animations - in my opinion anyway simply becuse I'm so use to ImageReady.

As for the Vector shapes - I drew them with the Pen Tool and used Layer Effects like Bevel and Emboss etc. although if I'd have wanted too I could have saved them using Edit > Define Custom Shape to use again in another project. The great thing about using Vector shapes for animation is that it's a fairly simple process to use the Direct Selection Tool to move individual anchor points to create a frame by frame animation - for example drawing a head and animating the mouth or eye sockets like so:

Vector is a mathematical method of calculating curves and points so that in theory an image can be scaled to any size without loss of detail. Raster is a method of taking a Vector and coverting it to Pixels. Sorry if that sounds too technical.

Hi Becky,
I like your fun monster. I have no idea as to how to do animation. But I do like Vector in Illustrator.
I've followed some of your tutorials on your Website and found them most helpful. Thank you.

You switch from Timeline to Frames and back again by the toggle button on the bottom right edge of the Timeline box itself. When you hover over it it will say "convert to frame animation"
