Photoshop Image - Ghetto Angel
Hi guys, I posted up here a few weks ago saying how brilliant Steve's book is and how it's given me the confidence apply to go to college to study next year and also to pick up a pencil and start drawing again (after being told I was rubbish at school!) Anyway followed all the tutorials in the book and would love some feedback about this image. I made it from some image I bought from istockphoto and a few free ones on Deviant Art. One thing about the image - I think the wings look wrong for some reason and I don't know how to fix them and also I'm not sure about the shading on the man. The other thing is I was contemplating using some brushes to do like a paint over on the image to add texture. What do you think? Do you think I can push it in some ways more? It's here........http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4559/ghettoangelprogressjm6.jpg Many thanks |

Great to hear that Steve's' book has given you confidence to do new things. Schools (teachers) have a lot to answer for, it is amazing how negative they can be at times. You are right about the wings, somehow they don't look like they belong to the man, not associating a lot with angles I couldn't say for sure how they should look, but there is something not right, perhaps they need to be bigger. Otherwise I think it is a great piece of work. good luck. |

I would suggest the wings are in a different plane to the body and the nearer wing (right) would appear slightly larger than the other. Also, the wings could be shadowed, especially where they meet the body and this would help to them more integral. Hope this helps. Nick |

Nick is right. The wings are not in the same plane. I took the liberty of proposing something, I hope you don't mind. I also think that the addition of shadow would help. ![]() I took the two wings, moved then to the right, lowered them and distorted them (right corner going up and upper left corner going down). I think this matches better the perspective of the body. Hope this helps! BTW, this is really a great piece of work. One can imagine all sorts of stories, which I think is a good thing! _________________ |

Hi guys, Thanks so much for the feedback everyone Pierre - I think you've got it there. Many thanks for the help it looks SO much better now. I always chicken out on distorting things...I see the image go funny and I think nah this isn't going to work ![]() Hope to post up some more experiements and may also try to 'bring' out some texture with this image too |
