New poster
Hi All
New poster attached. Feedback welcomed as always. For some reason, the right leg isn't faded properly when saved for web, so please ignore that bit!

Thanks

Chris

Re: New poster
Chris,
I do hope that somebody has started to pay you sensible rates for these posters; they're getting to be really good.

I like the way you picked out the red of the shoes to use as the title colour. And you picked the iconic sequence of the Tom Hanks film dancing on the piano keys.

Only comment I have to offer is that perhaps there ought to be reflections of all of the piano keys. The size of the foot over the depressed key might be an issue with some but I'm happy with it.

Watch out Hollywood- Chris is coming!!

Re: New poster
Well spotted Gordon!
There were reflections on all the piano keys which have somehow disappeared.
Glad you spotted that before it went to print!
I'm not getting paid a fortune (this one is in exchange for a link on their web site and a marketing campaign for my stuff) - but it is a good way of building a portfolio, and hopefully a reputation.

Once again - thanks for spotting the reflections!

Chris

Re: New poster
No problem Chris. I always find it amazing how another pair of eyes can see things that the first pair just doesn't see.

I know - it's frightening how you check and double check and stuff still slips through!

Chris,

Well Done!! You do excellent work in creating posters. Just wondering, How long does it take you to create a poster?

Re: New poster
Seriously good, Chris!

One suggestion would be to alter the angle of the reflection on his raised foot: it's a little square-on here but should be tilting back and away from us more. Also, give it a bit of a blur - more toward the back, perhaps; which would also give the impression of depth - and lower the opacity slightly more.

Re: New poster
Thanks David. I wondered about blurring it but wasn't sure it would be, with the keys being highly polished. But I will try iy out.

Luis - On average it takes about a day and a half to create a poster, which includes sourcing/shooting the elements, and also designing the show logo, which is a new talent I've had to learn as I'm not a designer by trade. Then there is probably about half a day's amends, as the client will want to change a few things.
To save time, I come up with the concept first and then scribble it down and email it to the client - either a sketch or a description if it's complicated. That way, we know we're aiming for the same finished product and there's no confusion. I can then just concentrate or producing a good PS image.
The concept usually takes a couple of hours - I have it in the back of the mind whilst doing other things, usually watching TV!
Sometimes the logo designs take longer - most clients have a definite idea of what they don't want. You then have to guess what they might like!
The quickest one was probably Humble Boy http://www.cberry.co.uk/posters/cberry.co.uk-posters-pg3.htm as I got the idea straight away and it was quite simple to put together.

I don't think it needs a lot of blur just enough to take the sharpness off.

Excellent Chris!

Only thing...with the twinkly larger stars...to me they look a bit uniform..all same shape and position. Would you consider rotating a couple and altering the size of them, just to give it a randomness?

Re: New poster
That's really excellent Chris. The element which impressed me most is the keyboard. Did you draw it? If so, extremely well done.

Re: New poster
Thanks Nick.
I got a vector-based graphic of the keyboard from above then distorted it to the angle I wanted then drew over the top of it in PS.

Re: New poster
Hi Chris.

Thanks for the explanation. It would probably take me a while to come up with something if a client asked me to create a poster.
