Britain's first jet aircraft
I’ve just up-graded my version of Cinema and BodyPaint and this is my first effort with it.

Britain’s first jet powered aircraft was the Gloster E.28/39 which flew for the first time on 15 May 1941 with Gloster's chief test pilot, Flight Lieutenant Gerry Sayer at the controls. This image depicts the first of two prototypes. The second, and only other, prototype was destroyed in July 1943 when the ailerons jammed.

This aircraft is now on display at The Science Museum in London and nearby is the first British flight worthy jet engine which carried it aloft which was developed by Sir Frank Whittle and his team at Power Jets at Lutterworth.

Hi redsnapper,

Cinema 4d is a 3d software package and Body Paint is a 3d painting package that allows you to wrap textures on to a 3d model. The textures can be photographs or something, as in this case, created in Photoshop.

The country side in the background is actually part of our green and pleasant land where the aircraft did much of its test flying. It's about mid-way between Coventry and London.

i expected a great retort. i just wasn´t sure how you would phrase it.
great! love it. before i find out more about those interesting sounding softwares i will probably have to spend another 1000 years breaking my balls with photoshop. your "red arrows" pic looks a lot more alive by the way. cheers, have a very nice day.

Gordon, your work is amazing. I bet you could market these 3D models on someones website. It's hard enough to find a picture of a plane at the right perspective when you need it, but to be able to use a model like yours in CS4 extended would be so much easier.
Great work!

Re: Britain's first jet aircraft
Thanks Nick.

Steve,
Much as I would like that idea I have to accept that my 3D modelling has quite a way to go to match the real experts in this field. There are many people with much better skills than myself out there doing exactly that. Some of their work is truly fantastic.

Check out, as an example, Anders Leczak at http://www.colacola.se/ for some really excellent modelling. He has tutorials posted on his site so you can get an idea of how the modelling process is done. Even if you are not into 3D it is a bit of an education; you can even download many of his models as freebies if you have the 3D software to open the files.

You might be able to open the .obj files in the free programme Blender which is downloadable on the net. They won't appear as ready textured models, though as you would have to load the textures provided.

I do have the next aircraft lined up for modelling but with Christmas in the way it will be some time before that one gets started. That will be a U.S. Navy Douglas F4D Skyray from the 1950s. Check it out in Google to see what it looks like. The final image is in my head and won't be an 'air to air' image like the previous images. If I can set it up the way I would like, it should look pretty good........I hope.
