Star Wars
I have been reading a couple of books on the history of 'Industrial Light & Magic' which was the effects company set up by George Lucas in order to produce the first Star Wars film. Before long I found myself sitting at the MAC and producing an X-Wing fighter and the Death Star. Cinema 4D, Body Paint, Poser and, of course, Photoshop. Just doing the textures for the X-Wing in Photoshop took as long as the actual modelling. For those of you who don't know, you have ILM and George Lucas to thank for giving us Photoshop as it was developed by John & Thomas Knoll who worked with ILM from its inception. ![]() _________________ Why isn't 'phonetic' spelled the way it sounds? |

Astounding, Gordon. The texturing on the X-Wings is fantastic - not just getting the insignia in the right place, but the amount of dirt and damage that makes it look real. I'm going to have to get you round to teach me Cinema 4D one of these days... |

Re: Star Wars
First great images Gordon. I really enjoy. Thank you. My points are relatively small. I've gone grummpy. I am not sycophant, So just to be honest inside my little mind that I have...... I am not a fan of Star Wars. There is no sound in space for example. 2001 and 2010 and Alien more correct. Anyway my small point, it should not burn like that, colour and direction....It should be plasmer maybe. Blue-white, unless you have a lot of oxygen? |

Top work Gordon. I would agree with Trevor about the burn and maybe a touch of motion blur on the craft to add some movement. Nick |

That's Stunning Gordon. I told Anna the laser surgery on her eyes she had today will be just like the Death Star ![]() Good points Trevor re sound and flame. Although it was another galaxy far far away ![]() _________________ Go Hard or Go Home! |

Re: Star Wars
Well the way that rockets tend to work is that liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen are pumped into the same chamber therefore there is more than enough Oxygen to create a Red/Orange Flame which would tamper off to a Blue Flame |

Re: Star Wars
Thanks to everybody for all your kind comments. Steve, no problem about going over Cinema 4D with you sometime…..you had better make it a very large pot of coffee and plenty of sandwiches as the learning curve is pretty steep. Nick, I treat images such as this in the same way I did with air to air photography where the aircraft is apparently motionless alongside you. Sharpness was everything. Trevor, thanks for your comments. I did actually tried a blue plasma but, pictorially, it didn’t work as well as the red. Hydrogen has the highest specific impulse of any of the elements when used as a chemical fuel in conjunction with Oxygen, however a small ship such as this cannot carry enough fuel to transit to the Death Star and back and so it relies on 25th century technology and is powered by a nuclear fusion engine. When used in a nuclear fusion reactor to power a variety of small spaceships Hydrogen will ionise as it is being converted to Helium thus giving a red emission line, usually referred to as the hydrogen alpha line. H-alpha Emission: In the simplified Rutherford Bohr model of the hydrogen atom, the Balmer lines result from an electron jump between the second energy level closest to the nucleus, and those levels more distant. The transition depicted here produces an H-alpha photon, and the first line of the Balmer series. For Hydrogen (Z = 1) this transition results in a photon of wavelength 656 nm (red). ![]() I hope this clears it up ![]() Brendan, I do hope Anna’s eyes won’t be quite that bad. Get well quick Anna…we need more ‘Annamations’. _________________ Why isn't 'phonetic' spelled the way it sounds? |

Perfect Gordon. I was thinking of that energy source, but not very deeply, sorry, and all your reasons perfect. I'll check tomorrow, but just only for my thoughts, (I might be back, there is something in my mind..., but not a problem) I trust you. The art of discussion and correction is a great gift. Thanks again. Trevor |
