Early jet fighter
The Lockheed P-80 was the USA's first operational jet fighter. Design commenced during 1943 and first flight took place in January 1944. As American jet engine technology lagged well behind that of the UK and Germany it was powered by a British designed engine which was licence built in the USA. Development led to the F-80C which saw much active service in Korea. It was relegated to Ground Attack and Photo Reconnaisance duties when the Chinese introduced the much higher performance MiG 15. interestingly this aircraft was also powered by a development of a British engine as our wonderful government, post-war, had earlier handed over the plans for it - free, gratis and for nothing! This image depicts three aircraft of the 8th Fighter Bomber Squadron (The Black Sheep) of the 49th FBG as they appeared on operations during 1950 - 1951 in Korea. Cinema 4d, Photoshop, Body Paint and Poser. Steve - I'll get you doing this if it kills me!!! Beautiful. And I really like that you've taken the trouble to change the numbers on each plane! |
