I've been playing with 3D too
As Steve will testify, I was resistant to the lure of 3D in Photoshop up until now. I used to play around with 3D many years ago on the Commodore Amiga, and then the PC, but it took so long to render anything in those days that I quickly lost interest.

Things are far more streamlined now and I'm really getting into using it. This is something I've been working on; it took a while to perfect but I think it's shaping up well.

So David you are saying the entire pile was made in 3D?? If that is the case, thats incredible.

Yes, Anna. It's the same book duplicated then merged with the original to allow the lighting to apply to them all.

Very nice work David -- I'm still playing with the 3d -- I did 3D years ago in Bryce --- whether it's my computer or the program I find extended does some weird things at times and hopefully it will improve in a "number" of ways as it evolves. Here's a little scene I'm currently working on (see below) -- the chair for example is approx 15 pieces and I would like a way to either link the pieces or merge them -- so far the only way I've found to do this is to export all pieces as an OBJ and hope they come back united.

That's excellent Frank.
Do you mind me asking what size you are doing your images?
I found when I was trying to render the glass from Steves tutorial at 180ppi 3" x 3" photoshop crashed.

Re: I've been playing with 3D too
Thanks Deborah, I usually do them at 1920x1080 pxs at 72 -- I too experience lots of crashes so I hit the save button frequently and particularly just before a major change -- using Windows 7 with supposedly an approved video card but I'm starting to think I need a more powerful video card as oftentimes I have to give it time to digest one move at a time or I get the little spinning wheel or a crash if I move on to quickly. By the way I too sometimes get that "line" and have tried various things to get rid of it -- sometimes successful and sometimes not --- I usually either edit the material or play with the edit UV settings depending on the size of the jpeg material I have used .

Great 3D work Frank.

David, stupid question but does PS Elements have anything that Photoshop doesn't? I've never used Elements so don't know if it's worth me getting a copy?

The book preview looks great on Amazon though!

I'm Enjoying all your 3D entries and well done. I've tried with CS5, but seems CS6 made things better. All I seem to do is make some very weird entries with 3D, please some time ago my interpretation .

Elements is the 'consumer' version of Photoshop. It lacks press-ready features and 3D/video, of course. If you already own Photoshop, there's little need to buy Elements as well.
