Thanks guys! That was fun to piece together... for some reason I've been on a 'flying things' theme all month. I've made dozens of animated bird and airplane gifs with no real purpose... just something to do. |

Loyd you are very accomplished: I downloaded the gif and counted 82 frames. Did you have to painstakingly go through each one or did you use another program to convert a video to animations? |

Hi Michael... It was made from five separate images. As shown here: 
It is two separate animations one after the other. I automated the backgrounds to rotate and added the cutout pilots. The sunglasses and horizon gauge were added into each respective animation and the two put toghether for the overall effect. Of course I had to create the movement of the pilots hand on the controls. I had to make the rotating horizon gauge as well. There is a lot of 'copy & paste' in my work... 
This one below was made in the same manner... but it uses four separate animations for the 'mini-movie' effect. Three different backgrounds and four Piper seaplanes. (133 frames ) I use a very old gif editor for my animations originally made by JASC and no longer supported.

I'm very, very impressed Loyd.  Is your Jasc editor better than Photoshop's ? Lastly, how do you escape the tornados as you live in "tornado alley"!  |

Mine works very much the same Michael. It's much faster for me and it works with layered PSD files if desired. Some of the FX are available no where else however. The greatest advantage is being able to save animations in an .mng format. The .mng (Multiple Network Graphics) allows for partial transparencies that can be used over and over in new animations. One just deals with tornados, I grew up with them and don't think about it much. Of course you take as many precautions as much as possible and hope for the best. It's been about eight years since the last one came anywhere near me... knock on wood!!
I whipped this up for you and added a couple of .mng saved geese as an example. 
I'm glad you asked about tornados... I've planned to make a tornado animation, but just never got around to it until now. I made this quite quickly so a number of improvements could probably be made. |

Great work Loyd. I just know about Tornado jets but cant talk about that and gyrocopter flying but can't roll or loop in those as far as I know. A tornado did hit near here though not long ago (not the jet) and caused a lot of damage...... |

Just for the record... the highest windspeed ever, in a tornado, was recorded at 318 mph, May 3, 1999. That was in Moore, Oklahoma, 20 miles south from my house. More recently at El Reno, Oklahoma in 2013, 12 miles west from my house, at 295 mph. |
