Things in jars.
This was originally a contest entry for Pixeladdiction.com which fell flat on its face. The brief was to put something in a jar, I figured that's exactly what the others would do, so I jumped out of the box slightly and put the viewer in the jar instead. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and it didn't convey the idea, so I reworked it.

I didn't fully understand your image at first but on seeing the reflection of the hand conveys that the viewer is looking through glass, however the glass seems flat as if the viewer is touching a plane of glass in front of a display of jars on shelves.

I would have expected some image distortion as the glass is concaved from the viewer perspective, also including the viewers other hand on the right of the picture would give a real sense of claustrophobia. Perhaps even the merest hint of a reflection of the viewer's face, although I understand you can't possibly know who the viewer is you can convey a great sense of anguish using a blurred face as a reflection and the veiwer will automatically identify with this person entrapped in the glass jar.

I agree with all Becky's comments there, David. We don't really get a sense of the curvature of the jar. It's tricky with this background; if we could see more jars, from further away, then a horizontal Spherize might help to give the impression of distortion. And I agree, a reflected face would really help here!

All good points and have been taken on board - suffice to say, I start my new job sweeping up discarded lettuce at McDonalds tomorrow!
