"Demo Reel" - (Quicktime Movie)
Hi there,

I've been wanting to create a Demo Reel for my website for quite some time, and finally just getting started. Hope you may be able to take a peak at what I have thus far and offer cc on the choice of music, and use of timing (I wasn't in the high-school band, so please forgive me if I've butchered the tempo! )

The first 10 seconds or so will be black background (haven't started on the intro ) , then about 25 seconds of animation, leading off into black again with the background music. There's a very nice cut about 1:25 into the track that I think will come out awesome with the composition I'm thinking about!

I've got so many ideas swimming through my head right now, but the learning curve to actually make the scenes is such a bear! I did find a spiffy effect tutorial I'm hoping I can tie into the aerail photography section of the reel. http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial.html?id=15

I know it's not much, but heregoes;

Filesize: 2.6mb

I'll post updates as the project comes along.

Thanks in advance,
--Chris

Looking good, Chris - I like the way the movie zooms into a door and then out of another one, and the way you show the layers in 3D is very effective. Good choice of music, too.

My only criticism is that we don't stay long enough on any image to see it properly - the before and after of the houses go too quickly for us to get an idea of what you've done to them, and in the final (so far) image we don't get a proper look at the finished artwork. Slow it down! But the idea, and the execution, seem good.

Thanks, Steve. I tried to slow down the timing on the first 3 sequences, but I'm ashamed to say I ended up lost in a jungle of keyframes. I'm afraid to even fathom the confusion I'll find later in the production process...

I've added another sequence of a panorama shot.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to make the video a "streaming" download rather than the current state of starting to play only after 100% download..

I think even the MTV generation will have a hard time keeping up with the pace It looks very interesting and makes me want to see more.

What did you use to put it together?

Chris,
I went to get my Thesaurus to find synonyms for 'Impressive' but then I thought naaah, 'Impressive' covers it well.

Loved the 3d effects. I would agree with Steve that it would be nice to dwell on some of the images a little longer, though.

Can't wait to see the finished work.

Gordon
ps
Why is there only one word for 'Thesaurus'?

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement!

I've figured out Streaming! Yay! So I've updated the animation. Had to do it in Flash, though...
I've also added a 3-D globe that I plan to use the "earth zoom" tutorial that will tie the helicopter photography in the piece.

Paul, I'm using After Effects CS3 for animation. (All content files were from Photoshop & Illustrator.)

Still trying to figure out how I can slow the clips down while retaining the "timing" of the music/comp... But all in good time

Very nice reel, and yes, Andrew Kramer has some amazing tutorials. I've been going to videocopilot for a few years now, and the tutorials keep getting better and better.

Also, I'm not sure if you have Adobe Premiere, but it is far better than After Effects when it comes to editing video and sound effects, and it would be very easy to sync up the music and comp if you were to get it (It has an option to lengthen or shorten music while maintaining the same pitch).

Thanks, Atomicfog. I had to get the sound FX disk from videocopilot!

Here's an update. All I have now is the intro & outro, everything else is there...although, there's alot of housekeeping needing done on the timeline

Sorry for the low quality, I'm still tinkering around with the different export settings. I've got it down to 2.6 mb, but the quality sucks.
