Re: Post Impressionism
The bold colors and contrasts are particularly appealing. And so much motion in such a static picture. Nicely done. _________________ Is it necessary? Does it work? |

Re: Post Impressionism
It's all very simple really, mostly the technique is from Steve's new book Art & Design in Photoshop. I found a photograph of a local Sunday League Football match and removed the goal post and spectators by making a path around just the footballers and the pitch in the foreground. I then cloned the pitch to build up the background where the goal posts and the spectators were then found another image of a park with trees and sky in the distance to finish of the perspecive effect. A made a copy of this layer which I then used the Filters>Artistic>Dry Brush to the image which make a fairly painted effect itself. I then used the original layer to apply Filters>Stylize>Glowing Edges which is then Inverted (Ctrl + i) and a Hue and Saturation Adjustment Layer set to Colorize and with the Hue slider dragged over so that the glowing edges were a dark blue. I also bumped up the Lightness a bit to make the white areas more white. This layer is then set to a Blending Mode of Multiply and gives a Cézanne style blue outline to the objects in the scene. My own personal touches came when I switched the Mode to Lab Mode and used Image>Apply Image set to a Soft Light Blending mode to the A channel which instantly pops the colours - you might want to play with the Opacity if you feel this is too strong. While still in Lab Mode I used Images>Adjustments>Shadows/Highlights with 10 in each for Shadows and Highlights this made a more even lighting effect. Also in Lab Mode a quick Auto Levels. Then switched to RGB Mode to apply Filter>Distort>Lens Correction to apply a Vignette. Then Unsharp Mask and Saved. Them heads of Cézanne and Gaugin were used on bodies built up from various post impressionists characters and were added in after the Dry Brush to the scene and slotted in before the background was merged with the foreground footballers. |
