The Earth. First go at 3D
I had a play with the 3D functions of PS. They are not as nice as a Maya or 3DS I don't think.

Anyway I came up with this. I know it's simple but I like it. I started out with a black and white outline jpg of the continents.

I coloured it for the material you see and used a B&W version for the bump map. I used the cloud filter on the water areas on the bump map. I think it adds some interest to the oceans.

A great view, certainly. But when you use outlines like this you do need to account for the globe as it actually is: don't forget the North Pole! And shouldn't the Atlantic be a touch wider than that?

I really like the Clouds effect on the water.

I wasn't paying much attention to geographical accuracy. I think the map I used was quite stylised. It was all I could find without a grid, borders or names on it.

I'm sure the distortion from wrapping around the sphere didn't help much either.
