Re: Wide Awake In Dream Land
Thanks Piotrek. Its started as an acrylic painting, painted in a watercolour type of style in some parts and oil in others. Then used a lot of photoshop to make it more interesting, or at least fresh on my part. Pure painting and photoshop. Felt like a change, experiment and a bit of fun ![]() |

... here are some words/lyrics (not mine, just inspiration, sympathy and thought), but I was thinking of other things too.... ![]() " : : You know your paint by number life does not exite you It's a watercolor world that you're livin' in And when you close your eyes at night You're wonderin' just where you've been You were young, when you heard the call Saw it all, in your crystall ball and chains A problem child who could pick and choose When the sandman calls your name You cannot refuse : Chemical decisions never turn out like you planned Now you're wide awake in dreamland" Pat Benatar - Wide Awake in Dreamland Bit grim ![]() |

Trevor, I'm intrigued. Was this natural media initially or did you use a software painting programme? I like the colouring and the overall mood. It does have a dream quality. |

Re: Wide Awake In Dream Land
Yes Sophie, Started from one of my paintings as commented to Piotrek. The more creative and mood got enhanced I think using photoshop. Its difficult to do that in retrospect with acrylic or watercolour paint, but easier with photoshop. I just love painting and drawing and find it natural. We all do but many stop after childhood. Shame. I carried on in parallel with other commitments as much as I could/can. I can paint in PS but I get some conflicts, and I'm not very good at drawing and painting in PS with brushes. Room for improvement. We can combine the two successfully. They are not exclusive. Look at the great inspirational work in Steve's latest book. When you draw or paint something, there is philosophy, psychology and cognition involved. For example if you do life drawing, to render the human form is difficult and everyone knows if err. and same for a portrait. All the the form three, philosophy, psychology and cognition get involved. You can add culture, but I am limited on that dimension by definition. There are no PS plug-ins for these. PS is my favourite tool, maybe more than my pigments and pencils, though the last two take no power and need no licence. One extant problem with printing, you can never get the effects of glazing like get from traditional painting, or I try to achieve with my acrylics painting. Not flat. If you look at Caravaggio's paintings for example in National Gallery (not print) vs Hockey I think you can see the difference. They look 3D, natural. Having said that, on a screen much better range of colours and brilliance. Just some thoughts and felt like a change and experiment as mentioned before. Thanks for your comments. Trevor Sorry folks I am a bit noisey again today ![]() |

Re: Wide Awake In Dream Land
Oh so you do paint ! Thats great. ! I could say of mine that im crawl on all fours. Its been like one year since im trying to do something with colour and real brushes. And its painfull and frustrating. And you start having a questions like "Am I even able to do that? Is it any good ?" since im rather terribly inexperienced "in real life" painter, i find it even more difficult to paint in photoshop. And im tend to focus on things i shouldn't - forgetting about composition, and hurring for the WOW result. ![]() So i admire that you could cross this two loves of yours into one. _________________ Dont use word 'simple' in your request, unless you know how to do it yourself. |
