My Titanic Challenge
Hi all This is my first post on to this forum, I have had the 'how to cheat in photoshop CS3 edition for quite sometime. Since upgrading to CS5 I couldnt wait to get my hands on the CS5 edition of the book which arrived today!! I have been a photoshop enthusiast for quite some time now, I am always looking to learn new ways of creating the wired and wonderful. I have been working on an image inspired by Bert Monroy who creates images from scratch using photoshop and illustrator. I have been working on this image now for well over 300 hours. I still have a long way to go but at least you get an idea of my skills in this limitless program. Everything you see has been created using only photoshop, I am using the image underneath as a reference. ![]() _________________ Join me on twitter http://twitter.com/#!/Stewart_Scott |

Re: My Titanic Challenge
This is a huge task you've set yourself! but it looks like it's coming together really well. I hate to recommend yet another book, seeing as you've just bought How to Cheat in Photoshop CS5, but have you had a look at my 100% Photoshop? It might just be of interest. |

Re: My Titanic Challenge
I have not heard of it until today, I shall certainly look into it! The task is very ambitious but I have waded too far in to stop, I have not got a deadline so I shall just keep chipping away at it. Its like a huge jigsaw, I just work on one bit at a time. its over a hundred layers and does take some time to load ![]() Glad you informed me about this forum I have been looking for something like this for some time! _________________ www.fablephotos.co.uk |

Re: My Titanic Challenge
As Steve say's, a huge task. I'd love to see the final result. The initial stages look so good. You may wish to research the name, which I think may have been painted, rather than made from bevelled steel. I maybe wrong though. Nick |

Re: My Titanic Challenge
Hi Stewart Following last post I looked at images of the bow and the lettering looked strange. I did some Google searching and found this reference: "I'm sure that everyone hear has seen that wonderful shot showing the Titanic not yet completed, with her name painted on her side. Well, did you know that that name was NOT on the ship's side when that photograph was taken? That's right, the name visible on the side of the ship in this pic. was apparently not there at the time. This website I discovered explains it all": http://members.aol.com/KEN63728/weird.htm Hope this helps. Having spent so much time on the image, I'm sure you would prefer authenticity. Fabulous work so far. Nick |

Re: My Titanic Challenge
Hi Nick I totally understand where you are coming from and thanks for taking an interest in this task. I have been toying around with the name and indeed the small bevel that I have put on it. In the pic that I am using as a reference the name looks to be chalked on as the paint is scratched in places. I wanted the name to be bald and stand out rather than a marker of where the proper signage shall be placed. I may reduce the bevel but keep the style of it. I shall keep you posted in my progress : ) thanks ![]() _________________ Check me out on facebook http://on.fb.me/inGQWk |

Re: My Titanic Challenge
Hi Stewart The bottom image looks good to me, but I remember reading that the lettering was bevelled into the steel. Maybe worth checking. As said, the ship did not have a name at the time of construction and this was added to the picture. They did not have PS in those days!, so I'd guess this was scratched in by hand. Nick |
