Memories
Did spend a couple of weeks house sitting in the Lake District. Whilst there I had a problem which was solved the next day and it provided me with a sight not seen these sixty years. A sweeps brush sticking out of a chimney. Aahh, happy days!

Re: Memories
What a wonderful sight Ted. Do tell us some more. You've left us with a potential cliff-hanger here.

Re: Memories
There is not much more to tell save for the fact that I was sitting quietly reading one evening with rain gently sleeting on the windows (this is the Lake District of which we speak) and I heard a rumble from the chimney and a large fall of soot fell to the fire grate and a small cloud of soot dust wafted in the room. I think I said something like - Oh bother, and got on with cleaning the place up. I have not had contact with soot since I was a boy so I had forgotten the smell and the difficulty of brushing and washing soot dusted surfaces. All, however sorted the next day with the arrival of the local sweep!

Re: Memories
Sorry this goes on. Ignore f you wish.

Ted et all,

Mmm .its very small memory as a small boy when they used to clean chimneys. My mind works in images just like many of us. 1960's Very clear image, white sheet over the fire place, and shove the chimney brush through small aperture. All the family and adults very excited. I just looked, too young. The story was, mother wants her house kept clean, and the men want to clean every thing.

We loved looking out at your scene.

I did not like all the dead birds though and realised I could hear their death, especially when they die in the room, quickly dispatched by my dad.

Now we are in 21'st century, Ted, its a reminder, my sister and friend burn wood in their fire places. They should clear them, especially someone I know in Croydon. If you don't the chimney catches fire.

Maybe nothing like what happened recently, but his property.

Re: Memories
I've got a general question, I'm sure its true for most of us:

Do you remember your past in images?

I do. Quite clear some of them. I think quite accurate. Detailed snapshots.

Just a thought.

One problem I have, which I think is true, if you revisit those thoughts too often, your modern experience will dull them and exchange, fit in to your current experience. Not fresh any more. But I don't know, we need to wake them up some times to know who we are, especially if they are good, when we are feeling low. But I just enjoy them. And as in here to share.
