Artery
Dear Steve, In my Locomotive post you mensioned a medical approach to this kind of Photoshop use in practice. Well, I tried to, but honestly it couldn't captivate my attention the whole way trough. I rather prefer technical objects to work on. Here's the result of your advice. By the way, the rounded fence on top is a so called stent, which I have five of them in my coronary artery, but still going strong! ![]() |

Good attempt! This nearly works. I think there's a problem applying Layer Styles to objects that wrap around a cylinder, like your arteries, because the lighting that's fine on one side looks wrong on the other, and you end up with something that looks too flat. With the cut-away sleeves, you should try to make the angles of the cutout point towards the middle of the vein. I think this would be more convincing, but I don't know why. |

Re: Artery
Thanks for your helpfull short college Steve. Yes, those Layer Styles. I tried to make separate Layers of them here and there, but you're right, this should be more convincing. And indeed I've overlooked the angles of the cutouts. Didn't think of the central axis. Never to forget from now on! |

Re: Artery
Very interesting! I had to check it out. Your anatomy very correct! I have a few doctor/GP/medical student friends, but internet very helpful as well. There seems to be quite a big difference between artery and veins. For the veins, those poor little valves can fail and can get varicose veins. Even worse can get DVT on aircraft. I was wondering if your stent was right? Yes! they should be hexagonal lattice. But should be uniform, maybe just my eyes(?) A very interesting operation for you, but five mmmmm.... Good luck to you for having chance. Stents saves many lives these days and only small invasive surgery. Well done surgeons and radiographers that do this. Anyway for the image I like it very much. For me from an art perspective I'd have put a few multiply/paint layers above to add some more 3D shading effects to the overall image, but again only me and that was not your brief. Great work again Sjef! ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for your kind words, Jota. And for your remark that you'd add some more shading. I keep this in mind. For the safety of my wife and me I stopped motorcycling, which we did since 1967. It's a bare fact to bear, but I keep being happy ![]() |

Re: Artery
Sjef that's really good! It looks like an Arterial wedding cake! Only photoshoppers would notice the slight imperfections. Have you tried making the model shape in 3D? either in photoshop or a true 3D program , 3D Max, cinema 4d etc - all of which can be imported into, and manipulated in photoshop. This would help as a guide for complicated shapes, then you can add the texture and detail in photoshop. |
