Cover for Foolish Endeavors
I have three books coming out in October. This is the cover for the second of them. Comments and suggestions always welcome! (especially since I'm very new to creating montages)

Re: Cover for Foolish Endeavors
Great typography!

The pose of the man in the foreground is a little confusing. This girl has just taken all her clothes off, and apart from having a massive erection loosely disguised as a sword, he seems completely uninterested. What's going on over his shoulder that's more interesting? I find the placing of the statue behind his head a little awkward, too.

On the basis that less is more, can I suggest you take out the middle line of the inscription on the cover: "The cost of freedom is always flesh and blood" seems rather stronger to me.

Re: Cover for Foolish Endeavors
Steve, those are some excellent points. Never saw the sword as a symbol for an erection, either. Funny what the creator misses, isn't it? Thank you so much. I've decided to redo the cover a bit, keeping the typography and parchment but changing everything else.

I also like your suggestion for the tagline.

Again, thanks!!!

Hello Mark,
Difficult enough to write a book let alone do the book cover. My hat off to you.
The only thing I would say is (aside from the comment made by Steve) I found the first cover more interesting. The thing I find a bit distracting now is Foolish Endeavours is now leaning and is not upright.

Re: Cover for Foolish Endeavors
I have to say, I agree with Deborah on this - I far preferred the first cover (oh, and please, don't delete the original when you add the new one - it makes it harder for Forum members to follow the thread).

The characters here are just too small, and with no-one in the foreground the cover lacks punch.

What Deborah says about the leaning text is correct. When you place text in perspective, the verticals should remain vertical: use Free Transform to distort it, but absolutely don't rotate it like that.

Allrighty, here we go. No rotation on the text (rookie move on my part), some lighting, shadows, and a new image rather than overwriting the old one. Thoughts?

Hi Mark,
Yes I much prefer your new cover. Steve tends not to be on the forum at weekends,so you will have to wait until Monday for his comments.
You work fast at this.

Deborah & Steve,

Thank you so much for your input once again. Being able to put this cover to rest is a huge relief. Now that it's been a few days since I created the fresco one, I see how terrible it is, so I have one question:

When is someone new to creating art able to judge whether something works or not? LOL

Deborah,

Unfortunately, I have to work fast. In addition to designing the covers, there is also writing and work (software engineer). Seems like twenty-four hours in a day is never enough.
