DYSTOPIA - A self training and learning exercise.
This might amuse some of you. Dystopian imagery is not really my thing - although I do love steam punk which often overlaps.

From time to time I set myself personal challenges. Kind of training exercises if you like. Often these use multiple disciplines porting between apps. This is one such.

The massive building is a 3D Mandelbrot fractal created in Mandelbulber and exported as 2D with alpha masks and depth cueing. The architectural elements such as the spiral stairs and fire escapes were also created in 3D using vanishing point analysis in Trimble Sketchup. They were also exported as 2D with transparency. The rest is a hodge podge of figures and objects culled from my large personal library, online libraries, PixelSquid and general web search using Google image. The composite was created in Affinity Photo and final lighting and shadow ‘painted’ by hand.

It fairly silly - but fun. The learning experience, however, is really valuable.

It’s very big - won’t even fit on my 30” monitor. You also really need to zoom in to 100% to get the details. You will probably need to click in the image twice to get there. Flickr tends to crop the sides and the scroll bars don't always appear as they should so you may find it better to simply right click download for viewing in your favourite viewer rather than struggling online with Flickr. It’s also very low key so needs viewing away from bright light.

Hope you enjoy!

That's really splendid. The people in the foreground give it a fantastic sense of scale.

Which reminds me of a joke:

What does the B in Benoit B Mandelbrot stand for?

Benoit B Mandelbrot.

Glad you like it Steve. I had fun doing it.
