Challenge 437: The holy grail
When I get briefs for illustrations, they take many forms. Some art editors provide rough sketches, some simply send me the copy, and some provide a detailed written description of what they want.

At the beginning of this week I was sent a commission for an illustration for a trade catering magazine, to run as a full page. Here's the brief in full:

Hi Steve

I have a feature for our march/april issue that would make a lovely illustration. It's a feature about premium beers being sold in a humble beer can as opposed to a bottle. I'd love an image showing a beer can atop an ancient plinth, with some knights who've just stumbled upon it looking on in shock/wonderment, and rays of light bursting through the clouds and falling on the can lighting it up (all else to be a shade darker), as if it's the holy grail… quite OTT! It's a full page – 290 x 215 mm.

Do let me know if you're up for that.

So, what do you think? Are you up for that?

No starting image this week - you're on your own.

I think I need to go down to the pub for some inspiration!

This should be good fun

Since we are doing the work for you, do we at least get a free can of beer?

Now there's an idea! But I've finished the job and it's been accepted. And I polished off the beer myself.

Lindeman's Pecheresse; a Belgian Fruit-flavoured Lambic beer. Fantastic on a hot summer's day!
Available only in a bottle ... until today!

I was snowed in today so I used my time sensibly
For the non-brits, CAMRA is the Campaign for Real Ale. The design on the tin is the cover of a book covering 40 years of campaigning to get rid of coloured, fizzy, tap-water and get decent beer in our pubs.
Sorry Steve I couldn't find a decent Knight; will a Lord do instead?

Do you hear that rumbling noise?

Must be Edward Byrne - Jones turning in his grave.
