Challenge 462: La Pharmacie
Linda Eckert's friend Anna runs a pharmacy in the beautiful French town of Nice. She's considering a makeover, though, to attract more customers. Here's Linda's photograph of the pharmacy as it stands - it's called Pharmacie de l'Acropolis, and it could certainly do with a new sign.

Can you help Anna with some ideas on what she could do to improve the appearance?

High res is here.

Too much information; Deleted. Lets work on clean slate..
Back again.I do like Nice though. Also Juan-les-Pins near Antibes and our international ETSI meeting place in Sophia Antipolis in the hills above where we have to work with maybe no sunlight and just windows open to cool down. But it is beautiful most times of the year there, especially winter in comparison. The Azure Coast. Beautiful. It is. I guess I've added too much information again, sorry.... last piece, yes I did help the Gendarmerie (local police) with a hit and run. Very nice police person appreciated my help. And I did rescue my American boss when he was lost at night!...Enough .. . Last comment off topic. The local boulangerie with girls/ladies gave me each day a very good start for the day. Deliciousness. So fresh! Loved it. Can't find it here or elsewhere . I'm only speaking my very very limited French, but the older lady was correcting my French grammar, in French of course... ?

La Pharmacie had a face lift to La Pharmacie Central. Yes it might have moved a little bit, but one dog and his trumpeter enjoy together with rest of supporters

Ok might have drifted and not much left of image, but essence ok on theme in a distant way in my mind(?). Its gone quiet this week so thought I'll drop this into the pond, ripples. Might have another go later......

I found this challenge particularly difficult. After spending over an hour cloning and healing I decided to find images taken in the same perspective and completely rebuild the pharmacy.

Trevor, is that the same place but from a different vantage point?

Re: Challenge 462: La Pharmacie
Sorry Anna, no call it a cheat. Its Fluers northern France cycling after our week of cycling. FFCT. The celebration of provinces and multinational friends leaving and with a celebration.
The dog/bitch in the trailer is called Anne(a?). The cyclist rescued her from London, 3yrs old. He is French of course. We meet up in some strange places on our cycle routes. She was very nice. The French really like to take their dogs on their bikes. Fine. I just get a bit concerned when I'm cycling up hill and little dog in basket starts barking and overtaking me with her owner .. rub it in
Not that one, its a husky in the trailer. My French very small and I think his English worse, but we stopped impromptu in "coffee" stop in French guys garden under the trees in an enclave. Nice and cold. Proprietor worked in London for awhile. Dog very happy lots of water. We had glass of wine before continue on our way ... And then a young girl cascades passed me on quite a long climb .. err I'm not a whimp, got top first in our group

And great work Anna. I'm finding it difficult too....., but do have something more ....

Nice work (geddit?) Anna and Frank.

Anna, I know exactly what you mean about the cloning ... I have been doing some extensive tinkering myself trying to subtly change the image and am also working on a nighttime scene so that I can try and show off the pharmacie green lights.

Your lights are very striking ... however the one on the right seems to have become a bit hidden behind the wall feature ... did you intend this?

It's funny but the style of the new building and the sign "Mortar & Pestle" that you have chosen reminds me of a Brickwoods Pub many of which a dotted around Portsmouth and have been converted to other things now.

No doubt a pharmacy is a good repurposing of a disused pub building.

Thank you Vern! I geddit!! Nice Nice yes haha.

Thanks for clarifying that for me Trevor.. The sign confused me.

I did stuff up on the right light but was hoping it would go unnoticed lol. Too much work to go back now and fix it.

Ive attached the starting image I used..not sure what type of shop it is though.

I looked at the link of the pubs. So quaint. Love them. Unfortunately we dont have anything like that here anymore… Maybe 1 or 2 left in the older suburbs but they are being demolished to make way for progress

Mortar and Pestle has a personal significance to me. My dad was very much into herbal medicines and he would use the mortar and pestle all the time grinding up some remedy. My brother, sister and I dreaded telling him we were sick because we never knew what he would give us. He died many years ago but I still have the mortar and pestle, whenever I look at it now it brings a smile to my face

Anna

Love you banner by the way!! Particularly the flash of light that goes through it!

Anna, it is good to see the original shop photo (photo-shop?) and hear about the significance of "Mortar & Pestle" as it adds more interest to the final image.

Let's keep the light on the right our secret

Thanks for your comments on my banner. There is very little personal story behind that one other than the fact that I love films (movies)

On reflection I thnk that static part should have lasted longer and the flash speed through faster .... this would also have made the file size smaller so I could have increased quality ... doh!

Re: Challenge 462: La Pharmacie
Linda, your friend Anna needs to hide or get rid of all that ugly metal and electrical clutter, replace all the old shutters upstairs and give the whole building a coat of paint. The neon lights are so last century. Dump them!

Dear cheat-friends, excuse me please: Yes, it was (primarily for me) a very difficult challenge, but your propositions are great. My friend Anna will certainly be enthusiastic about your ideas. Thank you very much! I hope the renovation-work will not be too expensiv!!!
Mariner, a renovation for the whole building is a super idea and your picture is wonderful, perhaps will the owner pay...

Re: Challenge 462: La Pharmacie
Linda, to add to the suggestions above for a new makeover, there was no mention of a new logo/corporate identity.
That would be a good place to start with Anna’s budget.

Pharmacie de l'Acropolis

For logos, a vector program such as Illustrator and not Photoshop is strongly suggested.

Hope that helps.

Kathryn
