Challenge 659: Robot Trumpeter
I spotted this automated bandsman at an exhibition in London's Science Museum recently.

Can you make a whole band out of him? Or, if you're not feeling that ambitious, can you suggest a band in which he might take part?

High res is here.

Important note
Those of you who have visited the Forum in the past ten days will have noticed that it wasn't available. That was due to some malicious hacking.

I've rebuilt it from an earlier version, but if you've previously entered an image for this week's Challenge and are wondering why it isn't displaying, that's the reason. (That's also the reason for the 100-challenge gap in the numbering.) Please upload your images again.

Thanks.

Well done Steve!

Because of the excessive heat, I have not done my robot yet, but will be eager for Friday's new challenge.

My browser (Firefox v52.2.0) still tells me your login screen is insecure.
I always ignored it until the crash.
I suggest you at least switch to https and, if you haven't done so recently, change your password.

The oldest robot is OLYMPIA in the opera "Les contes d'Hoffmann" by Jacques Offenbach (première 10. febr. 1881).

This was my original quickie entry because of very limited time then.

I commented on this before. What clever idea to think of Olympia! And what a beautiful costume!

The video was a little disappointing to me, mostly because I couldn't get the timing right for the jet sounds.

Re: Challenge 659: Robot Trumpeter
A charming image from Emy, with a singer robot who appears to be built entirely out of plumbing supplies. Great hair - but what is she holding? It looks like half a pint of tomato soup...

A cleverly converted female robot from Mariner - I like the way the hair has been built, and the addition of a watch onto the wrist. I like the fact that she appears in two different views - plus, of course, the tiny one on the stage. I wonder if some sort of pixellation effect would make the images on the screens look more projected?

A clever pairing from Linda Eckert, with the operatic robot from Tales from Hoffman. I like the fact that it appears so steam-powered. A good match.

A variety of robots from tooquilos, with a rather bizarre creature standing at the back. And is the band called Trump? Over to the animated version to find out... Aha! Trump and the ETs! Clever! Terrific lighting effects, great smoke, and good dance moves. That's quite an explosive band you've put together there. And thanks for the explanation of the lighting on the robot - I was wondering how you achieved that, and never thought it would be so complex.

An al fresco performance from Ben Mills, with a host of artfully arranged performers and a singer (at least I assume it's a singer) who, to my eye, looks like a nun. What music can this curious instrumentation be performing?

I was very amused by DavidMac's "original quickie" entry - the trumpeter fits perfectly with that scene of dancing stormtroopers. (Although I can't imagine how the original photo came to be.) Good colour matching - and it's tricky with a subject like this.

Clever work from Gerard, with a change of viewpoint to place the trumpeter in an existing orchestra. I like the subtlety of this one - very neatly done.

A queenly act from Vibeke, or perhaps a Queen tribute band: and is that a female impersonator on the left? I like the way the robot blends in, nice use of lighting to put it in place.

An intriguing desert setting from srawland - is that a scene from Star Wars? All is made clear in the animated version. The jet sound is fine - and I really like the shadow, and the flying dust. Nicely done!

Thank you all for bearing with me this last couple of weeks. It's good to be back.

Amost certainly, but would that make my image look better or worse?

Re: Challenge 659: Robot Trumpeter
Thanks Steve, That is a female impersonator, same chap as the singer. It was a great performance.
