Challenge 763: Saving the planet
A couple of weeks ago I was commissioned to produce a couple of images for a newspaper, illustrating a piece by climate change scientists on how they had changed their lifestyles to fit their environmental policies.

The first illustration was to show what they had chosen to give up for the sake of the environment: air travel, plastic packaging, meat, cars that burn fossil fuels, plastic toothbrushes, disposable coffee cups, and so on.

The second illustration was to show what they had moved to: a four day week, using their own jars rather than buying prepackaged foods and soap, cycling, using trains, growing their own food, and taking holidays locally rather than flying abroad.

The only constraint was that the illustrations had to be circular.

As an example of working to a real-world brief, would you like to take on this Challenge and see what you can come up with for a matching pair of illustrations? No starting image this week - and if you do happen to come across my versions online, please don't post them until the end of the week!

This looks like a terrific project - unfortunately we have friends staying for a few days and I don’t think ‘er indoors is going to let me come out to play this week

Steve, I just checked out your two images. They are very good. But did you manage to do both of those in only one weeK?

Ben,

I have just re-read Steve’s brief and I’m a little confused; is this what you are trying to give up or move on to?

I too, checked out the two images. I shouldn't have though, everything I think of now is far too heavily influenced by the originals.

You are absolutely right Loyd. It's now become a case of curiosity killed creativity

I’m a little confused myself, Gordon. Giving up might increase the population explosion, but on the other hand, moving onto would probably result in an area of rain forest being destroyed to make way for a rubber plantation. Either way the planet loses.

Out with the new, in with the old.

Managed to scrape some time together before our guests arrive and Sylvia finds out what I have been doing Didn't have time to develop this properly.

I was two thirds through this when Ant entered his image. I decided to just carry on anyway.

Re: Challenge 763: Saving the planet
I only managed one image (but not for health reasons - thanks for asking, Michael!) I cheated by taking pretty much all elements from an unrelated collage I was working on.. so this could be something along the lines of - eating veg rather than meat will drastically reduce the water shortage…
