Challenge 834: The six nose gang
Following on from last week's Challenge, here's a photograph taken by DavidMac of an abandoned comic store in Brussels. The name translates literally as The Six Nose Gang, but read out loud La Bande Des Six Nez sounds like La Bande Dessinée, which is the French phrase meaning "comic book". Can you refurbish this store, and perhaps populate it with appropriate characters? High res is here. ![]() |

Having sent this to Steve because I loved the pun, I suddenly realise I haven't a clue what to do with it!! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 834: The six nose gang
I am totally indebted to my good wife Ingrid for this. I was completely stumped by my own challenge! I got as far as maybe doing something with Pinnochio but couldn't think what. The idea of him painting graffitis of himself on the abandoned shop is entirely hers. Thank you my love! ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Having failed in Brussels, the shop reopened in London. ![]() |

Very cute! But euros? That could raise a few British hackles nowadays. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Brussels proved his business acumen to be suspect... and one month after running out of puppies in London, this happened. Obviously insurance and police investigators are going to take a close look. ![]() |

Thats really well done! My earlier comment simply referred to the fact that Britain uses its own currency pounds sterling ( £ ) the euro ( € ) is not used there. With all the Brexit fuss it has become a political issue. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 834: The six nose gang
When I first sent the photo to Steve I used the rather more literal and less elegant translation "The Gang of Six Noses". It sounded like a Chinese Triad. In early Chinese literature one finds rather unromantic things, like for example a brothel, given romantic names like "The House of Ten Chrysanthemums". So I have given my shop a lick of paint and put it under new management as a front for the the Brussels branch of the Triad. ![]() I have been known, on more than a few occasions, to complain about Steve giving us difficult wide angle perspectives to match. In this case I took the photo of the store front zoomed in from the opposite side of the road, so its perspective is not very marked. When I looked for restaurant interiors they were of course all taken on wide lenses to include as much as possible and make them look big. When you try to embed these in this longer lens image the mismatch becomes totally evident. It took me for ever to find one that could be used and even then I had to do a major rebuild on it to get it to fit. It's still far from correct but does land reasonably safely in "get away with it" territory. It's exactly the same problem as the one I complain about - but in reverse. So a little bit of poetic justice for you Steve ........ trapped in a trap of my own making! .......... and I didn't forget to glaze the windows Steve! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Nice one Ben, it is indeed clever! David, a casual observer, like me, would never see any issues with the perspective in your restaurant version... well done! |

Loyd: La Bande de Sept Nez .......? Although the one outside looks distinctly unhappy. Have you deliberately ostracised him? In which just this is just perfect. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Yes David, when they decided to reform to a 'gang of six', straws were drawn and Bashful got the short one... ![]() That or he didn't conform by simply being 'bashful'. |

Re: Challenge 834: The six nose gang
My thoughts immediately went to this clip performed at The Royal Opera House, London, from an opera by Dmitri Shostakovich and based on a book by Nikolai Gogol called The Nose. It's slightly longer than I would normally post but hopefully you will think it worth the time. http://vimeo.com/485049406 _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |
