Challenge 956: The cruel sea
I came across this model of a fishing boat in the Musée Maritime in La Rochelle. The creator has made a fair stab at replicating the sense of a stormy ocean, but somehow it doesn't quite work. Can you improve it? High res is here. ![]() |

Thanks Frank, but actually DavidMac holds that distinction, his number was well into the 'teens'... I doubt that record will ever be broken. Steve has just forgotten. |

Beautiful backlit glow on the sails Frank. Lovely! For some reason Imgur images are refusing to load here. So can’t see yours Micheal and Loyd. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
Something about the red square sails seemed to have an echo of old Japanese prints. This was one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" ideas. Much more work than I anticipated. On the plus side it's given me plenty of pen tool practice! ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
I am still completely unable to view Imgur images. They just show as a question mark. Clicking on the question mark takes me to Imgur with a filename suffix appearing in the address but only a blank white page is displayed. This happens on my iPad, my Mac Studio and my wife's Imac so it doesn't appear to relate to my settings. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thanks Mariner...! David - IMGUR... Banned in Belgium. ![]() Must be a router/server issue somewhere David... I'm curious, can you view any of last weeks entries? Your Japanese print is outstanding, well done! ![]() I have completed four more, two on topic, two, not so much... I'll wait for a while before posting them... I'm trying very hard not to make so many. |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
Well it seems to be a browser issue. I have just discovered I can view the images fine in Chrome but not in Safari. Since all three machines I tried use versions of Safari it would seem to be the culprit. On my main machine I have tried clearing caches and history and it doesn't help. Hardly surprising since the problem is common to three different machines running different versions of Safari. Very odd ........ _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
Love your sea Michael and the fast moving clouds really work in this stormy context. But something tiny is niggling at me. This is very subtle and picky. In fact I am not even quite sure how to explain it, but the boat seems to lack "immersion". I really can't put my finger on what or why, maybe its just quite simply my imagination, but somehow, to my eye, it appears to be "on" the water rather than "in" the water. ![]() BTW. I am sure it will come as no surprise but I do prefer Frank's original. ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
