Challenge 1068: The Andromeda Conundrum
It's not really a conundrum at all, I just like the idea of a title that sounded like a science fiction book. This week's challenge comes from David Mac, who spotted this figure in his local Asian shop. 800 euros for a miniature figure? What would you do with it if you bought it? High res is here. ![]() |

There's your entry. A self portrait consigning her to the bin ...... or other more suitably dramatic and bizarre disposal. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1068: The Andromeda Conundrum
As far as I know it has no relevance to this Andromeda but do any else of you have teenage memories of being glued to BBC1's adaptation of Fred Hoyle's "A For Andromeda"? It was remarkable for its time as it took an advanced scif-fi concept seriously and "believably". Also featured a very young Julie Christie in the title role. I was in boarding school at the time and I can remember dozens of us crammed like sardines into the room of a resident teacher who had a TV. Sitting on every inch of the floor. It is still considered an important milestone of TV science fiction. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1068: The Andromeda Conundrum
When I first sent this to Steve I thought Andromeda was an amazon female warrior. Now that challenge time is upon us I have done some preliminary research. Well, it seems that boys like pink too. Despite the big eyes and delicate features, Andromeda is in fact a fella. I suppose the delicate turquoise bulge could have alerted me but I'd already jumped to wrongful conclusions. A visit to Wikipedia revealed all! No pun intended. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1068: The Andromeda Conundrum
Well that's a good start! I don't know if you ever saw "Dark Star" Gordon but if you have you will know immediately why I mention it. Directed by John Carpenter in 1971 while still a film student. Made on a shoestring with a college crew Dark Star nonetheless got a general release and became a huge cult success. Many directors of huge Sc-Fi movies have since acknowledged it's influence on them. Its low budget means that FX etc are very primitive but that's part of its charm - it even has a monster made from a beach ball that manages to be simultaneous silly and genuinely sinister and disturbing. If any of you want to see a truly bizarre space movie unlike anything else you have ever seen then do go look for this. It's available on a number of streaming services. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I have once more family arrive for a week this time with two very active small boys.
