I totally agree, there's some fine work gone on there, even down to Russ's pink lamp.

OK, my turn - I have no idea where this idea came from but I kind of like it

Very nice, are you trying to imply Steve bears more than a passing resemblance to Dr Who?? :

Haha love the darlek, Trinity. What with the T-Rex in the garden along with the firey robot dragon, and ghosts in the house Steve must be forever on his toes when at home - does he even have time to boil an egg I wonder.

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Trinity, is that a secret laboratory back there? I'm assuming so because that door appears to be a fake with no doorknob on the inside and robots coming out and all. I like the circular groove thing. Nice subtle way to show some depth and keep it interesting.

In the last post by Droo31k, is that guy late for an appointment with Steve or is he fleeing the scene and stealing Steve's briefcase? I hope, for Steve's sake, the former is the more accurate scenario.

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Raymardo, have you never seen Dr Who? Well that's the inside of the Tardis that Dr Who travels around Time and Space in and the "robot" is a Darlek - the arch-enemy of the Time Lord Dr Who.

And to think I was giving Trinity all the credit for coming up with that. I'm going to have take a trip to Blockbuster Video and rent me some reruns!

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Normally I wouldn't dream of adding to Maiden's explanations, since they always cover everything I would have said and more. This time, I think US visitors need some more explanation...

Dr Who was a British TV series that began in 1963, about a time-travelling boffin ('The Doctor') who battled an imaginative variety of galactic baddies. I still remember watching the first episode (I was all of four) and being thoroughly terrified by it.

By far the best of the baddies were the Daleks, who were nasty, slimy, tentacled creatures who lived inside the metal cases like the one illustrated. Almost everyone of my generation - well, boys, anyway - have had nightmares about these things at one time or another.

The Doctor travelled around through time and space in a ship called the Tardis, which resembled an old Police Phone Box on the outside but, inside, was vast and looked exactly like Trinity's drawing. Dr Who hasn't been on for probably 15 years or more, so it's testament to the visual power of the original that we all remember it so well. After all, how many other TV shows can be instantly identified by their wallcoverings?

I have never been here before but thought I would join the fun unless it is a closed session

MJ,

No, not a closed session at all - anyone can play. But Hey! Watch that perspective!!! Nicely opened door, though.

You're building quite a membership Steve - let's hope they also buy your fabulous "must have" book.

It certainly is becoming a buzzing little community!

If they haven't already, people should definitely be buying the book. Maybe referencing relevant chapters in the contest description might prompt some more purchases?

Ok here is my attempt for this weeks comp. Not the best I have done but this has been a chaotic and emotional time for me. Its my daughters first week at school, and I am just over the tears of seeing her walk through the school gates, so please be kind.

And if your looking to quote chapter references, snow straight off of page 156

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Steve, just bought your book . Checking out the website and forums I noticed your comment about Dr. Who. We in the US are not unfamiliar with the great Dr . In fact, I think that it runs on a Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) right now. I have seen an episode or two. I also had a friend that followed it constantly. You must get some of our shows across the pond.

We have a name for the British sitcoms. They are affectionately called "Britcoms" over here.

I will check out the forums and probably submit to some of the challenges in the future.

Cheers,

That's putting it mildly! The very best stuff - West Wing, Sopranos, 24 - is stunning. Then there's the rest...

Welcome to the forum, anyway, and do join in.
