It never fails to amaze me how much you people like blowing things up. Still, as long as you can keep it virtual, there's no need for the security services to get involved just yet.

Excellent explosion from maiden, and thanks for telling us how it was done in a later post. The fact that this was all done in PS is a major bonus, and just goes to show what can be achieved if you're prepared to think it out. Those tourists are fantastic, too - are high res versions available?

Ryan. some great firework action. The shards of masonry shooting out at the top really work well. How did you do the explosion behind the clock face? That's a really good one, and I'd like to study your technique there. Great doom-laden sky, too, and the day-for-night effect works really well. Like the van!

Florida still isn't forgiven, Brian Garrison, although I appreciate that you did your bit to help. Maybe, as this guy is the self-proclaimed Leader of the Free World, we should all get a vote next time around? But a really great montage there - fantastic explosion, that one really has energy. Great detailing, too: the lettering on the T-shirt is really convincing, Osama looks great on his bike. The inside of Big Ben tower looks a little like it's solid concrete, but hey, let's not quibble here.

Only a slim vestige of the original remains in Atomicfog's Starsky and Hutch entry, but there's certainly a lot of energy and vitality there. Fundamental error, though: you can't set your explosion layer mode to Screen when there's a white background. Your homework is to revise Blending Power and report back next week.

It's always a treat when the initial idea is subverted, and we had a couple of great examples this week. Trinity's blow-up is a really good piece of work - the lighting on the boy's face, his expression and pose, the flames beneath the tower all work perfectly. Taking the trouble not only to design the box but to place the power cord in front of it was really worth the effort, too. If I was his mother, though, I'd change his wallpaper. I've seen more subtle name changes than Glen's disposal of his original monicker, but his balloon modelling is second to none. Great idea - and I love the fact that the girl's face is completely hidden. And, look: you can just make out her other hand behind the balloon. Great touch!

Echoes of 9/11 in MJ's entry - good to see the Space Shittle (oops! meant Shuttle - Freudian slip!) being put to good use at last. The angle of the ghostly Spirit of St Louis is spot on, and I think that adds a lot to the overall composition. Bit more destruction needed on the clock tower, though, don't you think? I wouldn't have thought it would crack in half so neatly. Still trying to work out how you could spell Sue with an M. Nothing to do with John Wayne's original handle, by any chance?

A thoroughly enthusiastic demolition job by ChrisPucci rounds off this week's entries. Good night view (except I'd have turned the cars' headlights on) and some nice destruction. But I think the doctors are going to get there too late!

Great work, all of you.

Unfortunately not the highest resolution is this but I cannot claim rights to it as it was Googled.

Hi Steve

The explosion in the clock was quite simple to create. I started with an image of fire, added a zoom radial blur at 100 a couple of times. I then dragged this behind the tower with the clock cut out and changed the mode to screen, I then duplicated this layer and rotated 90 degress to add more explosion.
