Re: Contest 73: Property development
NOTE: This is not a serious one! Just thought i'd do what it would be like if this room was in a game ( a limited game by the size of the room! )
Could do better, but a 5 year old pulling your arms all the time makes me do bad!

Re: Contest 73: Property development
I was going to sit this one out, but here is mine. It looks uncomplicated but I had a few bad starts before I felt comfortable posting it.

Re: Contest 73: Property development
I left the oak beams exposed because of Steve's love of beams. They are also exposed on the entryway side of the wall.

Jason vs. The Bee Gees

Didn't have much time this week.... My two major issues are getting the perspective of the couch somewhere near correct and giving more depth to the Bee Gees.

Would love to know how one can give more depth to the Bee Gees---even with Photoshop

Re: Contest 73: Property development
Some of you really have missed your vocation. There are professional interior designers out there who don't have half the imagination. I had to keep referring back to the original image this week to see how much you'd changed - something I don't normally have to do!

First out of the paint store was maiden, with a really tasteful job: darkening up all that wood gives it a warm, mellow feel that certainly wasn't there in the original. Turning that stall on the left into a bar works perfectly - its purpose just hinted at by the row of bottles behind. Looks like a hand-knitted rug, too! There's always this problem, though, of how to put a sign on a door without it being on the wrong side of the door. My solution is generally to use a glass panel, so we read the text in reverse. But… a whole room without Photoshop! What on earth would I do in there?

While maiden worked well to cover up the glow from the doorway, Born2Run has exploited it with a shapely (and, curiously, footless) silhouette. Perhaps there's a step outside? No matter. Excellent floor tiles that follow the perspective of the room perfectly - and we all know how hard that is to achieve. Like the bean bag, and the angle of the plasma screen. Can't see the movie would have much of a plot - though, of course, the special effects would be dazzling!

Judders has given us a packed entry, with a great selection of objects and furniture to bringt this room to life. A couple of things you need to watch out for when placing elements in a montage: firstly, the colouring of each placed element has to match the scene it's in. This applies to some extent to the Foster's bucket, which is a little too bright and contrasted, but especially to the TV, which is far too blue for the room. And, I have to say, I'm not sure about the shadows of either of these objects - how can the TV cast a shadow on the glare from the window behind it? The pool table works well, but when you distort an object to that extent you really need to bend those balls back to round afterwards! A great first entry, though - welcome to the Challenge!

A ghostly scene from Stefan, with a good headless chap wandering the corridors. The treatment of the room is good, and the door almost fits - you need to get rid of a bit more of that glow around it. But where's the ghost's head? Don't these guys usually carry them under their arms? Like the reflection of the pillar in the floor, but shouldn't the rest of the wood have a reflection as well?

Well, Dek_101 has really spruced up the old barn in time for the party! a fantastically cheesy transformation - the fake wood panelling, the padded front to the bar, the sprig of misteltoe all make this a great scene. Something about the piano's shadow bothers me: is it the section just under the left of the keyboard that's too strong? Tricky one, this. But a great cutout job on the tree (that must have been hard), some artfully explosive tinsel, and a neat curtain to frame the whole thing. Best detail: the reflection of the tree in the piano lid. Most curious detail: Is that Gilbert and George on the wall?

Yee-har! Hot diggety-dawg, etc etc. Sorry, I never could do the accents. But Born2Run's second post really tickled me. What a great job! Everything in this barn makes so much more sense without that wall - and all the extra elements, including the rocking chair, the guitar and that peculiar chap in the white hat, look perfect here. Even the perspective on the view beyond is exactly right. And, of course, the whole thing's tied together by the texture of the old paper. My only very small criticism is that the shading on my face is coming from the wrong side - but, hey, this one's so good it earns you a title. Hmm, both this image and your avatar have a cowboy theme, but you're obviously a city dweller. So Digital Dude it is. Excellent work, Chris!

Some great added objects in Paul 2005's alien entry - worthy of Spielberg, that one. I don't think that door would fit in its opening, though! And while the shadows of the beam and the dog work well, the shadow of the deckchair needs a lot more work to make it realistic. Partly the fact that the front doesn't fir the front legs, but also the angle - this shadow isn't coming from the door! It's a really tricky object to work with, and the only real solution here would be to draw its shadow from scratch. A great carpet, though!

Not sure I'd feel happy about using the facilities provided by Aethelbrihte Cniht (crikey - try typing that name first thing in the morning!) but it does fit the room well, with a good attempt at its shadow on the stall behind. A little lacking in privacy, perhaps? And shouldn't there be at least a toilet roll nearby? You would think the plumber would have moved the carpet before installing his hardware, though.

Welcome to G E Sutton - and what a fabulous first entry! all the comforst of home, including a stained glass window, some neat curtains and even a shotgun to keep marauders at bay. Fantastic attention to detail here: the hat on the pegs, the angles of the table and sofa, the blurring of the ceiling fan, and a new door that fits the opening to perfection. Thre's something about the beer bottle that doesn't quite ring true, but otherwise this is a really great piece of work. Nice one!

There are only a couple of aded elements in Lexus's entry this week, but they work really well - although the leather sofa does seem a little small to me. The placement of the cardboard boxes is good, but the shading is a little awkward: the side facing us should be in shadow, rather than so brightly lit. But overall there's a really good feel to this one, Alex. And i really like the retro texturing of the game entry! Seems like rather a dull game, though, with only the walls to shoot at…

A fantastic entry from BobbyJo, with a load of added elements that really sparkle up the room. The carved names in the woodwork are exceptionally well done, and the furniture all fits just as it should. Just a couple of things stand out here: the shadow of the table goes over the bottom of the chair in a straight line (need some bending there) and something odd seems to have happened to your arms. But - look out! The ceiling's coming alive! What on earth is that stuff dripping from between the beams? If my house had dry rot like that, I'd move out!

It's always interesting watching someone's thought processes in action, and we can see right into mguyer's brain with his three entries. The final one is certainly the best! A couple of things would really help, here: darkening one of the red walls would make the corner very much more visible, and would add a three-dimensionality to the scene. Plus, the old shadow problem: the shadow from the roller needs to be directly beneath it, since it's touching the wall; and the shadow needs to bend across the floor to touch the ladder at the base. But good use of perspective, although that man does seem a little tiny compared to the doorways!

Some weird perspectives in jwhite's entry, with a couch that's lurching forwards out of control! Perhaps this was the wrong image to use? The sense of the Bee Gees as cardboard cutouts may fit their personalities, but surely the one on the far right should at least have a bit more body to bridge the gap beneath him? And perhaps his shoulder could have been rebuilt, as well! I like Jason lurking in that doorway, though. His shadow needs strengthening, don't you think?

Once again, an astonishingly accomplished job from Neal, with so much detail it's really hard to see where the original image and the new image join. Either you painstakingly placed every element in this montage, or you struck lucky and found a building image from exactly the right angle and perspective. Either way, it's details like the cupboard doors leaning agains the original wall that really make this one work. Brilliant!

Re: Contest 73: Property development
Thanks for your comments Steve, much apreciated even if you did think my image was cheesy ... I thought it was very radio times myself ... have tweaked the shadow under the piano ... see what you think? ... also wanted to ask .. I included a reflection of the tree in the green ballon central to the picture ... not sure if it looks right or whether it should appear upside down on a curved surface?
You were spot on in the observation round .. that is indeed Gilbert and George lurking behind the xmas tree.
