Thank you Gordon, James and Nick.

That attempt was actually take 2. I hadn't realised that it was meant to be a night scene, till I saw everyone elses work and wondered why on earth everyone was doing night scenes

Lighting the grass appropriately would have been an improvement - Mind you I always think there is something a little sinister about funfairs
(one I made earlier)

Not forgotten, as such, just spread a little thin at the moment. Normal service will resume when the management returns.

Anyway, yet again, fabulous entries this week. Keep up the good work!

Re: Contest 210: Fair Play
This was a tricky challenge - with so much detail in the original image, it was hard to make it light up without an awful lot of selection work. Of course, some of you found ingenious solutions.

First up was Mick Malkemus, whose dancing and gesticulating silhouettes added a useful human element. The insides of the stalls have been well lit up, and the ferris wheel in the background adds life: but why the grey sky? Wouldn't black have made everything stand out better?

Some fantastic lighting from brewell - I especially like the motion blurring effect. Keep off those big rides!

Some subtle lighting from dikidee, with the red light behind the trees adding a rather ghostly sunset glow. But would the banners be so dark?

Plenty of action from GKB, with some spectacular strings of lights and a splendid rollercoaster in the distance. The added children lend the event a human touch, and that spotlight gives a good focus. A lively, busy approach.

The thing I like most about Ben Mills' post is the sparkle on the lights, which gives them a good twinkly feeling. The added contrast adds greatly to the effect, too, as does the general warming of the colours.

The fireworks in mguyer's fair certainly make the event look special - it's surprising how much difference this addition makes. Shame it's drawn the crowds away from the stalls, though! The added contrast in the second entry helps a lot.

Powerful lighting effects from Ellen, with stalls that look expertly lit up: and that Ferris wheel looks terrifyingly fast. The girl with the candy floss draws us neatly into the picture, too - a needed foreground element. I'm not sure about her reduced size in the second entry though: seems to me that the bigger, the better for a foreground image.

Excellent lighting from Nick Curtain, with stalls that really do look lit up from within: the added yellow makes the scene so much more convincing, and the people bring a definite extra quality to the image. Very fine work indeed, Nick.

This week has given tooquilos the perfect opportunity to show off her animation skills - such a complex piece of work, with so much going on! The clown is amazing, and the whole animation is an extraordinary piece of work. You have a lot of patience!

A tale of hope and sadness from james, with the fair coming to life and then getting ruined by the thunderstorm. Some real drama here! I'm interested in your comments on reflections of the stalls in the grass: only if the grass is damp, surely?

An interesting entry from Ctee, which reminds me of one of those photographs you can buy that have LED lights inserted through them. Are you sure the background image needs to be so low contrast? It does make the lights look detached!

Great lighting from Andy L, with stalls that really look lit-up. The added neon, especially on the word Stratosphere, is a great addition, and the roof of that red and yellow stall has been well rescued. Good to see more people in here, too!

Josephine Harvatt says that her image "still looks rather cheerless" - it's a good scene, with some good lighting, but of course the lack of people in the image is all that's lacking here. What's the point of a fair if no-one comes? As we can see from your second entry, the addition of a person makes the whole thing ...er.... more.... friendly.....

A fantastic image from astral, full of people adding life and interest to the scene. Some very fine lighting here, with added strings of bulbs making this a very convincing image. Great work!

I enjoyed misa's snow globe - an entirely novel approach! A beautifully drawn dome, with good shading effects to produce this subtle blue colouring. Good stuff.

Loads of people in katew's entry, which really livens it up: and the added lighting works a treat. It's definitely early evening, rather than night, which I like here. Convincing, and entertaining.

The lighting on the ground in DanLundberg's entry is, I think, the best so far, with each stall casting its own light and shadows. Of course, with so many lights in each stall, the shadows wouldn't be nearly so well defined - but the atmosphere here works particularly well, and the illuminated staircase up to the rotor is a good addition. I like the half-closed feel, too - or was this just a time-saving exercise?

Very enjoyable work. Starting to catch up after my holidays, now!
