It's a bit too dark to see properly but if it's about smoking and the increasing public shunning of smokers then this is brilliant - if it is about smoking then perhaps some light and glow from a cigarette to illuminate the concept.

Nope! I actually found a bunch of them and then duplicated it, turning it occasionally and flipping so the shadow was on the right side. It still took about 20 duplications to fill the tank though!

Well done Wayne
I love those old automata - perhaps he can get a job next to the Feejee mermaid

Thanks Josephine
Love your Feejee Mermaid, interesting backstory to go with it too.
The Zoltar dummy is the same one that was used in the film "Big".
Unfortunately the only images i could find were all at the wrong angle so it looks a bit squished on the left hand side.
How did you get the tonal effect on your entry Josephine?
Really makes everything blend together perfectly.

Re: Contest 240: Maritime mayhem
Its my favourite cheat if there is a problem with colour matching - basically desaturate everything (shft +control +u) then go to Image - adjustments - colour balance and fiddle around with that until you get a nice sepia. For this I used quite a bit of red, about the same of yellow and then toned it down with some green.

You are right about the squishiness - have you tried the distort/skew/perspective/scale tools in the Edit - transform menu ?
I have to admit I am not very good at that sort of thing myself and generally have to resort to putting vases of flowers and the like in to mask awkward angles

Kate that is excellent. Very well done.

Clement I agree with Becky, it needs to be a touch lighter. Great image though.

Re: Contest 240: Maritime mayhem
Thanks for that advice Josephine, I will give that a go.
Regarding the Squishiness( love that word) i had to do quite a bit of transforming on the glass display case just to get the perspective correct with the street. The case i got the Zoltar from had more glass on the left side than the display case i was fitting it into, hence the squish.
However i tried, i couldn't get the left hand side of the display case stretched out enough without destroying the perspective of the case. It just looked plain odd .
Should've put the thing indoors so i could bung a vase or curtain over it, ah-well live and learn.
Thanks for your help

Wayne

The object inside, though, is rather dull, and the walls (this was the children's gallery) are overpowering. Could we come up with a better setting, and a more interesting exhibit?

High res is here.

You're welcome - if you can't correct the perspective on an object in its entirety sometimes if you can split the image up into top, front
and side- each part on a seperate layer - you can adjust them separately to get the desired effect.
There is probably a more elegant way of doing it - I just make it up as I go really
