Great images everyone. Joey, I really like that. Didn't feel right using an image of Steve Jobs and as he was a Buddhist thought this was more appropriate. And I agree with all the comments, a great loss of an exceptionally clever man. ![]() |

Peaceful work Deborah. Great balanced serene resting image. I was wondering why I was struggling with rendering within the brief. Your appropriate solution works for me. |

Re: Challenge 372: The stained glass window
First to glaze the window this week was Josephine Harvatt, with a saintly image - and there's Saint Steve holding an iPad, with apple motifs and his initials. I like the way you've matched his skin tones to the original saint, but all that cascading long hair seems a little out of keeping! And is the iPad held in place by velcro? An interesting take from Ben Mills, which celebrates SJ's time at Apple, NeXT and Pixar, featuring characters from many of the movies. All nicely integrated, but I think we could do with a little more colour in the background - perhaps blue sky and a grassy green base? A cunningly worked window from tooquilos, with app buttons nestled into the upper reaches, and a great pose for SJ - although the long hair is disconcerting (and would have been easy to remove). A charming and rather moving animated tribute, Anna - very tastefully done. Great choice of final image! Clever work from James, as an apple falls from the tree into the early Macintosh - and SJ appears behind it. The Stained Glass filter produces a random array of panes, though - I'd like to see the lines following the contours of the Mac, and of Jobs. I very much like GKB's idea of the window being the home screen on an iPhone - even if it is an old iPhone (and, indeed, an outdated Apple logo behind). A nice window, too, with Pixar characters filling in the upper panes. Are you sure the text should be in italics, though? That seems wrong to me. A simple but very effective image from Vibeke, with a hand holding an apple - nicely worked out. I'd have extended the outline of the hand down to the bottom of the window, which would have avoided the slightly awkward issue of how the stained glass joins it at the bottom; and perhaps had the hand in a different colour? Great sky! Intricate work from Steve Mac - and the real apple in the window shelf is a very nice touch. Again, though, I'd like it if the leading followed the outline of the big apple, as this is the main element in the picture: it should be framed in lead. I like the reflection on the wall, though. Good to see you back, Steve. A very strong image from brewell, with SJ in a saintly pose (but still in trademark clothing) surrounded by the Apple and Pixar logos. The iPod dancers are a nice touch. A great array of Apple kit strewn around in the foreground, and I like the reflections and overall colouring. Nice! Not entirely sure why Jota120 has put SJ behind bars - or is that very heavy leading? And should that stripe go right through his eye? You've lost me here, Trevor. A very moving image from joeysala, with a beautiful close-up portrait and great texture on the glass. The leading seems a little too thick, though - and shouldn't it go around the edge of the glass, next to the stone window, as well as in the middle? I do like the way it follows the contours of his head, though. A very nice touch including a real version of the Pixar light. And thanks for the new avatar! Beautiful work from Deborah Morley - a real cracker. The stained glass has a truly modern feel, with the sky and grass divided into large panes; the texture of the leaves, grass and tree are all finely painted, and the image of the apple having fallen from the tree is very moving. A splendid reflection of the window in the walls, which really makes the glass look illuminated. Excellent! A very colourful entry from Garfield72, with SJ wearing an Apple crown, danced over by a couple of Disney characters. I think the radial gradient may be just a little too colourful for a window, but I like the way the Stained Glass filter has divided it up. And good to see your working, on the tiny Mac screen at the bottom! Plenty of Apple kit in puffin31939's entry, with SJ in trademark polo neck shirt. The shirt could have been extended through to the bottom of the window, though. How is that hand holding the iPad? Shouldn't it grasp beneath it? And don't flip the Apple logo, it looks wrong. A very nice touch having an iPod in a speaker dock at the front, I like the realism tho adds. A thoroughly modern window from Eva Roth - intricate, detailed work. I can make out the two iPads in there, but much of the detail is just too small to see. It would certainly make a good window! A very neat idea from Artwel, showing the window having been opened, with the Time cover of SJ on an iPad under his glasses. The view through the window is, of course, based on the default iPad home screen, which is a nice touch. Just one thing: what's lighting up the windows? A truly ingenious second entry - that silhouette pose is instantly recognisable, and the backlit congregation is perfect. Very fine work! |

Thank you - I agree it would have looked better without the locks - as for velcro on the ipad ... now there's a thought ... _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Really liked the entries for this one and the subject. Unfortunately I had no time to play. Hope to have a go at the sinister machine this week all being well. |

Thanks Steve, You are right, as usual. The sky is the Mac standard background, just changed the colours. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: Challenge 372: The stained glass window
Thanks, Steve. I debated flipping the logo - you are correct it looks wrong. As for holding the iPad - it was a last minute addition and I didn't give it enough thought. _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Re: Challenge 372: The stained glass window
Steve - re. the leading - yes, I struggled with that. I've never done real stained glass, and wasn't sure about placement of the leading. I guess I could/should've done some research. This was a particularly emotional challenge - everyone stepped up to the plate admirably. The avatar is a self-portrait painted more than a few years ago. _________________ "Art is a blade of grass ... and in a moment I will eat it." |
