joeysala, I really like the way you have changed the scale of the machine and the depth of field you've created. |

@Jota120, Great job with the selective - desaturation, colorizing, lighting, composition and cropping! Had me fooled. It looks like a real screen capture from a Bond movie. Kathryn |

Re: Challenge 373: I've been waiting for you, Mr Bond
A somewhat bloodthirsty image to start the week from tooquilos, featuring an immaculate cutout and the whole machine moved indoors - complete with 007 Aston Martin. The animated version shows all the wheels moving, and an enticing wobble on the belt, as a rather grey-haired Bond slides towards his doom. The only thing I'm uncertain about here is the hub of the wheel on the right - I think this should maintain its direction rather than swapping back and forth. A play on the Rocky Horror Show from Ben Mills, with all the characters from the musical - plus a few who weren't there, such as the clown and the - er - nun in suspender belt? But you've found a very appropriate font, Ben, and I particularly like the different treatment of all three Rs. A splendid GIF from maiden, with bag after bag of potatoes heading into the chipping machine... and Sean Connery as the Man with the Golden Pan. Good to see Goldfinger in there, too. Interesting how the sense of movement has been enhanced by the oscillating belt - clever work, Becky. Very fine toning from Jota120, who has immersed James Bond into the machine and given the whole scene a darker, moodier feel. I like the way he's looking at the character in the foreground, who's mainly out of shot - nice eyeliner action there. Topical work from Nick Curtain, with the very subtle integration of Oliver Letwin into the scene. (For those outside the UK, Letwin is a British politician who was recently seen dumping a load of sensitive emails and letters from constituents in a local park.) Great lighting - but as you say, he is missing half a body... A touch of timber rivalry from brewell, with a greatly stripped-down machine applying the pressure to a remarkably human tree. I like the subtle spin on the blade, but best of all is the Severed Limbs gag - cute! A nicely moved image from Garfield72, with our new victim strapped down but just able to raise his head to see what's coming - although the severed leg in the foreground should give him a clue. I like the pose and integration of the man into the scene, but you do need to address his colouring: he's very much redder than the rest of the scene, particularly compared to the strong blue hue of the machine operator. Oh - and that handle needs to go in front of him, not behind. A very funny take on Wallace and Gromit from zombie67, as we see the pair dealing with that clay animation puppet from the 1970s, Morph. Very good placement of all the figures - the glee on Wallace's face has taken on a much more sinister aspect. Inspired work from GKB, as the machine is used to split atoms ready for feeding into the Large Hadron Collider. (Again, for those from outside the UK: Fred Dibnah was a demolition expert who achieved fame on British TV in the 70s for his cheerful homespun philosophy while climbing and breaking up disused factory chimneys.) A great treatment: I like the flying electrons, and I'm most impressed by the way they're distorted as they fly out of frame. Excellent, Gordon. Subtle work from joeysala, as the machine is rescaled to become a butcher's saw - its placement in the foreground clearly sets the scale based on the out-of-focus activity in the background. Simple, but very effective. High camp action from Deborah Morley, as Vincent Price bends Barbara Steele (thanks, James) to his will. A very fine black and white horror setting - the machine blends in perfectly with that background. Excellent! James's animation may only last two seconds, but there's so much to see here that you really have to watch it a dozen times to see everything. The spinning wheels, the vibrating belt, the multiple action of the man with the lever, the head movements of the man behind, and the sudden twist as the log is fed into the machine and spat back out, knocking the man over... it's all over in a flash, but it's a truly immaculate piece of work. Magnificent! In the third reference to British TV of the 1970s this week (why have we come over all nostalgic, I wonder), puffin31939's entry shows recently-knighted gameshow host Bruce Forsyth reenacting the closing moments from one of his shows - except the conveyor belt here is carrying the bear from Denver into the shredder. I really like the aged photo treatment of the scene - and the perfect integration of the new elements. A rare animation from Emil, and it's good to see so much action: the spinning wheels, the moving belt, all going in time with each other. The big toothed wheel really needs a hub of some sort, as it appears to be rotating with no visible support; and the presence of the woman in the gimp mask is a little disturbing! A charming and deliberately unphotographic entry from Artwel has our secret agent on the beach, the machine adapted to become a Martini dispenser. Tremendous action in the animated version - the spinning wheels, the flashing lights, the waving palm tree, the opening mouth, the drifting smoke, even such detail as the needle moving on the dial - fantastic! Your attention to detail is terrific. Great work: I hope to see much more of it. |

Re: Challenge 373: I've been waiting for you, Mr Bond
Thanks Steve Shame my attention to detail slipped dreadfully this week, but it really was a last minute thought and a rush to produce something. I thought you'd mention that I've actually posted an avatar after all these years! Thanks Deborah - much appreciated. Emil, the way you have made the right hand wheel spin is great. |
