Re: Challenge 378: Upon reflection
Many congratulations to all of you who attempted this week's Challenge. It wasn't an easy one, but there were some excellent entries.

First to reflect upon the problem was Nick Curtain, with a highly realistic entry. With no-one else's work to build on, this set the bar very high with a very close approximation of the real thing. Particularly good following the horizontal line of decorative brickwork through the reflection.

A slightly more compressed reflection from Ben Mills. There's a real glassiness to this glass - and I like the boosted colours, it's a much warmer image altogether.

There's a lot of perspective on BigVern's entry - a little too much, perhaps? I see you've caught me doing my shopping there. Nice camerawork!

Interesting work from Garfield72, with a lot of perspective on the reflection. Interesting that you chose to mask the reflection behind the structural steel work: surely the glass is on top of that, not behind?

A good reflection from brewell, with the Occupy movement taking over the supermarket. A good selection of police and protester - but you really need to colour-correct those two with the banner, they look horribly jaundiced. And that thing on the left, by the way, is the angled roof of a taller section of the building.

Great glass from Deborah Morley, and I like the way the reflection is fading away. As you say - not easy!

Good work from emanuelefrau, especially carrying the decorative horizontal brickwork through, and I - wait, what was that? Did you see a bird just fly in front of the camera?

A very neat entry from tooquilos, and looking at this I couldn't imagine how it could be animated... but that's a brilliant piece of work! And the animation works perfectly. Very fine stuff, Anna!

A well-reflected sign, if just a little compressed, from James. But I really like all the activity in the animation: so much coming and going, you really do have to watch this several times to see everything. Just one point: as the taxi drives off, it appears to glide out sideways. Should it enlarge more with each frame?

This certainly does seem to be the decade of zombie attacks, as they're cropping up in just about every video game... and Artwel's entry builds on that, with not only a rather good reflection but a huge amount of action as the supermarket bosses defend themselves. A glorious animated version, too, with waving arms and fire - and the shaky handheld camerawork adds greatly to the atmosphere.

The most technically accurate image of the week is from Jota120, who has clearly put a lot of thought into the way the lettering would reflect. But is the whole reflection just a little too far to the left?

I can see why puffin31939 found this one "really difficult" - and indeed, it was a tough assignment. This works well, except the decorative horizontal brickwork shouldn't be in the same perspective as the lettering - it's seen through the glass, not reflected in it.

A very different kind of reflection from munchonu, which appears to be sloping down to the left - now, why would it do that? Well-built brickwork and glazing bars, though, and I like the boosted contrast.

So, it's time for the big reveal. You'll see that you all got remarkably close to the real thing, so many congratulations for that. One thing no-one got was the reflection of the vertical decorative brickwork on the left - I thought I'd left enough of a hint of it behind the plywood to give you a clue. Obviously not enough! The other thing that surprised me was just how thick the lettering is, when seen in the reflection. This was quite unexpected.

I completely agree with the bad color assessment, and I fiddled with it for quite a while. I don't know why that particular image is so hard to correct.

Cheers Steve! That reflection had my head minced, tried a few and picked the wrong one. Typical.
Well done everyone else on getting it spot on.

Thanks again Steve,

Yes I think so in retrospect.

Again, great work and bravery for all who tried. Its constructive safe here! I think all learnt something in a positive way, especially with Steve's feedback of course. Difficult one, but interesting! technical problems!

Re: Challenge 378: Upon reflection
Thanks, Steve. I knew those bricks should be horizontal but I couldn't get them right as well as getting the main part of the canopy as nearly correct as possible - so I left them as they were.

Interesting exercise - I nearly gave up several times but I am glad I persisted.

Thanks Steve, I enjoyed this one, but annoyed with myself for missing the bricks reflecting too.
