Never been to India, so I thought I'd place the 'taxi' in Cairo instead. ![]() _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Well, I thought if it was going to star in a film, it needed a re-spray. A very, very stupid thought. It would have been quicker to fly to India and physically re-spray it - a lot more expensive though. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 379: Rickshaw Rick
Loads of brilliant ideas so far. Love the animations. For some reason I have made hard work of this one. This is my third attempt. The first took ages and left me disatisfied. I started the second this morning and this is this afternoon's variation. I'm sending it in now before I start fiddling again! ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Well - this is frustrating! Seems like every now and then I just can't seem to get it right! When I "save for web" the size is correct - but when I try to submit it, it's way too big. Or way too small........WHAT????? _________________ "Art is a blade of grass ... and in a moment I will eat it." |

Re: Challenge 379: Rickshaw Rick
So many clever ideas this week - I had to keep flipping back and forth to the original to see exactly what had changed. First up was a period piece from Nick Curtain, with a neatly-altered taxi: not just massively cleaned up, but with a new Mini front end, new wheel hubs and tyres. Fantastic perspective matching on the Mini! A well thought-out shadow from the golf bag, too, and a neat 007 logo on the back. Sean seems a little low down in the scene for this viewing angle, though; a touch bigger might help. Very clever work from brewell, who has neatly slotted an elephant into the driver's seat - and that can't have been easy. Good expressions on the meercats, too, and a fine sense of movement. But with all that motion blur, you really need to make the hubcaps spin. I like munchonu's taxi careering downhill in - er - Yorkshire? Again, though, you need to spin that wheel to give it a real sense of movement. I can't quite figure out the man chasing it, who seems to be a refuge from Pirates of the Caribbean. Or am I misinterpreting the costume? A touch of political satire from Josephine Harvatt, with a couple of champagne-guzzling bankers (you can tell they're bankers by their stripy shirts and braces) in the back of the taxi. Squeezing in next to them is George Osborne, the UK's current Chancellor of the Exchequer, whose recent comment that "we're all in this together" was ridiculed in the light of him being a old Etonian with vast inherited wealth - hence the fed-up expression on the face of the taxi driver. Nice work fitting them all in, but the shine on the windscreen should go in front of the driver. A reference to the Life of Brian character with the pronunciation problem from Ben Mills, seen peering over the top of the Coliseum. I like the cartoon version of the taxi, and the fact that it's driven by similarly challenged TV presenter Jonathan Ross - although the top of his head does seem to be missing, and he could do with being a little larger. The thick border, I think, should go around the Coliseum but perhaps not around the rickshaw as well. And have you turned anti-aliasing off on your text? A truly fabulous makeover from tooquilos, with a massively decorated taxi - love those false eyelashes! I really like the Bollywood version of the Cars logo in the animated version, and I'm most impressed by your belly dancing technique - ingenious bit of animation! Amazingly, it works as well on the taxi as it does on the people... A first Friday Challenge entry from ahmedalij, and it's a great idea - transporting the taxi to the desert where it can really get up to speed. I like the trailing dust cloud, but you really need to spin those wheels! Arnie is a good over-sized choice of driver, rather neatly poking his head out of the top of the car. Nice work. But if that's a Layer Effects drop shadow on the taxi, make sure it doesn't go over the sky! A beautiful wedding car from Garfield72, neatly refurbished and decorated with flowers and ribbons. The bride and groom fit very well inside, but you need to have them more in shadow than that: and the bride's veil should be a little more translucent: ![]() Oh - and get rid of that stray shadow in the back panel! An interesting fusion between taxi and motorbike from Jota120: I think maybe do away with the windscreen altogether, rather than having your driver pushing through it. And there's some curious angle business going on in the back, making it all appear to slope upwards on the interior. A touch more Puppet Warp needed here! Some improvement in the second entry, but you still need to address the windscreen issue. I liked Jimbean's Santa cart, with its Christmas decorations and reindeer antlers - and that's a great Santa dozed off in the back, surrounded by empty Jack Daniels bottles. Is that Rudolf sitting in the driver's seat? Couple of points: the added graphics, especially the snowflake, need some shading to make them look as if they map onto the surface; and you really need some soft shadow beneath the taxi so it doesn't appear to be floating: ![]() I'm glad GKB found time to enter his own Challenge. An armoured howdah does seem like a great idea, but you have to feel a little sorry for the elephant. Small point: if you give that decorated strap some shading on the underneath, it will look much more like it wraps around the body: ![]() Neat work from vibeke, who has moved the taxi to Cairo - complete with traditionally-dressed driver, and a little girl in the back. I'd take out some of the blue in the background to bring it more into line with the taxi, though. And given the strong perspective on the taxi, is it just a little too far back in the scene? A fine respray from Deborah Morley - and you’re right, it does take ages to do this kind of work. Reminds me of the time I photographed my computer keyboard for a job, and spent half an hour cleaning it up in Photoshop - before I realised I could have cleaned the real thing in five minutes. Great new hubcaps and tyres, and I like the suggestion of a reflection in the front panel. Immaculate! A terrific Winnie the Pooh animation from James - very clever work! You've used a lot of frames to make this happen, and I like those spinning wheels. I'm just glad this image is hosted on Photobucket and not here, so I can disclaim all responsibility when the Disney lawyers get involved... A splendid children's book cover from puffin31939, featuring the taxi in the cartoon bus pose from the book. Nice work, and I like the hand-drawn treatment. It's a tricky transformation, made all the harder by the fact that we can see the interior of the taxi. I think the only solution here would be to cut the inside to a separate layer, and distort it independently - there are just too many perspective planes to work with here. A beautiful image from emanuelefrau, with a recoloured rickshaw nicely sunk into the waves. I like the windscreen treatment especially, but there's just one thing missing - either a driver, or footprints leading away from it. And, er, don't crocodiles live in rivers, rather than the sea? A fantastic RC taxi conversion from Artwel, with really clever labelling - Delhi Boy is a great name! A really well rendered box: the flames, both red and blue, add a tremendous impact to the piece, and the subtle reflection is a good touch. And I like the Toy Story parody in the second entry, but I feel the Friesian Cow livery could do with more shading. Or is it just too complicated for its own good? It looks like joeysala has put a whole lot of work into this image - but it's so tiny, it's really hard to make it out. Why are you having so much trouble with Save for Web? It should guarantee you can get the image down to the right size. If you can post a screen shot of your Save for Web window, we might be able to see what the problem is. Good work, all. And just a reminder that there's still time to sign up for the HotChiPs Christmas Party next Friday! |

Re: Challenge 379: Rickshaw Rick
Thanks Steve The shot of 007 was taken from the Goldfinger film, one of the best in my view, but there are so very few decent quality images to choose from. The car front end is in fact his Aston Martin DB5 and again, difficult to find one, which came anywhere near to matching the perspective of Gordon's image (thanks for the challenge Gordon). I'm sure Aston Martin will be quite flattered! I did ponder over his head height for some time. Look forward to seeing you all at the Xmas nosh. Many thanks to Gordon for arranging that. Nick |

Re: Challenge 379: Rickshaw Rick
Thanks Steve. I knew there was something wrong but didn't have the time to figure out what it was. This was my first FC with CS5. I've already used content aware fill a couple of times on another image I shot in Delhi and it's amazing stuff. I used it on the forest backdrop this week to remove some wires. Looking forward to using refine edge. I've got one particular shot of my late pussy cat, Geoffrey, that would otherwise be very challenging to cut out.
