I found this one tough -- ended up making a pattern --- anyway here's legosaur as a decal getting a look at his ancestors on lego art -- don't know if he's impressed -- ( background made by me in Bryce a few years back) http://users.eastlink.ca/~fbwhite/legosaur.jpg Frank ![]() |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
Thanks Deborah and Artwel. I agree, Artwel, that there does not appear to be strong shadows cast onto the Dino like there are on the ground from the plant in the foreground. I can see faint shadows on the Dino's surface but they do appear to be wrong. It is weird because I have checked the model from which the scene is rendered and all objects are set to cast and receive shadows. I guess I could fake the shadows on the Dino by painting them on but that seems like cheating the render. I've not tried the 3D programs you mentioned. I have had a go at learning Blender but found it overwhelming and so have given up with that. I may try again with Blender or another full 3D package in the future. in the meantime I kind of like the restrictions that Photoshop imposes on creation of 3D as I am looking for ways to create within the limitations of what the software is capable. I also used to have severe slowdown when working in 3D but have recently solved this by building my own computer with fast components, see http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum_pro.cgi?fid=07&topic_id=1329926235 Cheers Vern |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
Hi Vern. maybe the shadow problem is because photoshop is only seeing the dinosaur as a flat 2d shape so it might be receiving the shadows differently to how we would expect them to?, so in that case you wouldnt be cheating the render, just helping it out maybe? ![]() _________________ “Art Is Never Finished, Only Abandoned.” |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
That might be a possibility although as the Dino is a Repousse object then it should be "seen" as 3D by photoshop render engine. I will wrestle with my conscience about faking the shadows on the Dino's skin. In the meantime I am struggling with the camera in After Effects so my animated version may not be ready before friday. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
I'm having problems too Vern.., I've been distracted this week after discovering LEGO Digital Designer, a simple 3D program for designing your own lego sets!, as you can see my current attempt is pretty lame but the possibilities of this program are endless.. like lego!, give it a try! ![]() ![]() _________________ “Art Is Never Finished, Only Abandoned.” |

Fabulous discovery Artwel! Here's my not very neat first attempt. Endless possibilities indeed (If only I were a five year old, I would have mastered it by now). Good fun, I might include the odd lego brick in future challenges... ![]() |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
Here is my first image that I am not satisfied. I have difficulty to transform a landscape into a lego. Artwel discovered LEGO Digital Designer and I just try it. I post a picture made quickly. I would have liked to know earlier. Thanks Artwel for your discovery ![]() |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
I tried a few different ideas for this one, I decided to go for a pixely, blocky approach. Not happy with the Text, I'm working on an animated version, hopefully it will be finished in time!.. ![]() _________________ “Art Is Never Finished, Only Abandoned.” |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
Ok after much fiddling I've managed to pull together a short animated sequence. It is best viewed at mid-size as it has become quite compressed in the upload. Cheers Vern ![]() http://youtu.be/bCWIEyh29oc |

Re: Challenge 393: House the Legosaur
Where did all the Legosaurus's go?. Bit of a late entry, had to rush this video to get it finished, so a few mistakes and no time for sound effects but the epic soundtrack should help! ... http://vimeo.com/38617812 ![]() _________________ “Art Is Never Finished, Only Abandoned.” |
