Sorry Linda. not so much "frippery", more a bit weird and a very little surreal.

Well it has been a while! The end of our big project may be in sight so maybe I'll be able to contrbute a bit more soon.

This is a bit of a rush job - not sure about the shadows, or the size of the dogs...

Dear cheat-fans,
I am very enthusiastic about your artistically high-standing suggestions to configure my old living room into a modern lounge. Thank you very, very much! I will immediately change the actual scenery.
The choice is not easy. I like all your propositions. Perhaps I could extract from every entry an object? No, not this way. I make an exhibition of your pictures and organize a great party. All guests have to give points for every artwork. The winner will be announced at a later date…

Just a little picture here, maybe have to wait a day or two before my animated version is fit for public viewing..

Re: Challenge 423: Linda's return match
First to decorate Linda's room this week was Jeepy, with a clever piece including several recent Friday Challenges - as well as a copy of HotChiPs lying open on the floor, and some handsome chap peering in through the window. Very nicely achieved, with a fine blazing fire. Not sure about the fake stone wall effect, though! Is the second entry designed to be viewed with 3D glasses?

A neatly extended room from James, with some cubist comic book art adorning the walls. A lot of tight detail in here, such as the transparent top of the coffee table. Is the woman nearest us too big? Come to that, are they both too big for the furniture in which they're sitting?

A typically grisly scene from munchonu, with a cartoon burglar having gone a little too far. Is that you on the mantlepiece? Great expression! A very moody, dark piece.

Looks like tooquilos started off with a Picasso, then started on the Fabergé eggs and ended up with all manner of fripperies... but that's a great glow in the fireplace, and I have to say it does look like a very entertaining room (even if nothing of Linda's appears to remain). Neat movement in the animated version - I like the blinking Picasso!

I enjoyed brewell's view of Jackson Pollock's dilemma - the counterpoint of the two artists' styles is very well depicted. A good colouring of Pollock, and the woman has a very apt pose.

Some very restrained art from Garfield72, complete with a most modern fireplace. You need to distort the edge of the chimney breast as seen through the fish bowl, though - and I'm not sure why those two girls are wrestling with the bearskin rug.

Mariner has gone all art nouveau, with a selection of Alphonse Mucha prints complementing the statues on the ground. I'm not sure about the Dali sculpture, but I am intrigued by its shadow. If the wall behind it is sloping backwards, doesn't that mean the shadow should be sloping as well? A very restrained and polished entry.

A very cosy room from Frank - so much so that the occupants seem to have got carried away (perhaps the Chateau HotChiPs helped) and lost their clothes in the process. Great lighting, well-chosen furniture, and a terrific self-portrait a là Magritte. Glad to see you've been getting into 3D modelling, Frank - it really is very interesting, isn't it. By the way, did you know you can merge 3D layers and still work on them? This would make it easier to put a flat cross on top of the king's head.

A very tasteful room from tomiloi, with highly appropriate art and a great chair in the foreground. I'm not sure about offsetting the picture on the mantelpiece, though: it looks odd not centred. A very good clock - perhaps the hands should be bigger?

A clever construction from Jota120, as Linda's room forms the backdrop for an intense negation between - er - is that Reagan? And possibly Gorbachev? Hard to recognise them from this angle. The blazing fire is neatly integrated, and I like the way you've duplicated the window but changed the view through it. "Weird and surreal" is how the artist describes his second entry - I think that could be said about most of your work, Trevor! A novel fireplace decoration, though.

Some major alterations from sciteach, who has made the room all angular - a very strong idea, especially with the Mondrian-like coloured stones. Would like to see this one taken further.

A great collection of home-made modern art from Deborah Morley, with a sculpture, a painting and a couple of lamps. Nice work! But wouldn't it have made sense to rotate one of the lamps so we're viewing it from a different angle? Glad you're getting into the 3D stuff, it really is most intriguing.

A cosy scene from puffin31939, with a theme featuring many instances of the same bottle, even appearing in the decoration in the middle of the fireplace front. Very appealing! Good to see you back, Angela.

A fine collection of art from Artwel, all very neatly arranged in front of the lit fire. I like the way the reeds in the two vases have been rearranged slightly. That iPod looks very flat, though: give it a bit of depth? Sorry you didn't get time for the animated version, I was keen to see what lay behind the sliding panels!

A collection of sculptures from joeysala, nestled into niches carved into the stone of the fireplace. I have a few issues with the viewing angles: we're looking up at the side niches (we can see the roof inside) but down on the top square niches (we can see the floor). A great carpet, though, and the curtain is a great addition to the window.

Some very fine ideas this week - and thanks, Linda, for the loan of your room! You must show us how it ends up.

Re: Challenge 423: Linda's return match
Thanks again Steve, I enjoyed all FC entries and your comments/feedback

Yes it is Reagan and Gorbachev. I was very interested in what Gorbachev was achieving and the person to help bring an end to Cold War, with, I guess, a lot of pressure from Reagan escalating the potential $$$ costs to maintain status quo, (maybe a lot of it bluff, though Reagan might have believed or at least aspired to it).

Maybe "Weird and surreal", is a good complement to "real"........

Thank you Steve.
1- For the fake stone wall, I think it is warmer than a white wall.
2- yes, you have to put red and cyan 3d glasses.

And thank you to Anna for her little comment. Very honored.

I can spot a sliding panel at 50 paces. It's my MI5 training.

Re: Challenge 423: Linda's return match
Thanks Steve,
Yes that cozy fire and Chateau HotChips seems to have overheated the room, Appears I have inadvertantly copied Magritte's style, I am aware of the 3d merge and in this case I drew the king ,queen separately and later merged them to give them same lighting, ground plane. I inderstand your suggestion was to square the king's top separate and then merge into the king which is indeed possible . I came across this link which appears promising for 3d enthusiasts.
