Maybe I can do something a bit more up-beat tomorrow, but I do read Zola, Tolstoy and other tragedies ....

Thanks for the suggestions Sjef: I didn't get on with the "Inner glow", but interesting to know! The first suggestion of painting in white completely lost me when I clicked "Overlay mode" as the whole image/selection disappeared.

Here's a palmtree I did some years ago in which I created extra palm fronds, then did subtle variations on the original palm tree.

Your palm trees are very nice and I hope you don't think that I have critics about your way of doing things. It was only a different approach, I learned from another Photoshop guru, I think it was Deke McClelland. Another than Steve, I mean.

I suppose you applied Overlay to the whole (masked) Layer. Sorry, I was not clear enough. I ment the Overlay-option of the white Brush, painting over the edges of the tree in the mask.
Here's an example-dialog using inner glow to colour the needle ends.
