Decided to have another play. Bit rough and ready but I really must get on with other things!

Artwell seems to be a specialist on this hard kind of projects and he is unbeatable, but tooquilos, you did a very nice job too, I must say!

Oh bother! In my last attempt Arthur has no shadow and a dodgy collar! I have tried to amend both. However I think scrapping and starting again might have been a better option but I don't have time.

Don't think I'll be able to participate this week.......my hands are absolutely killing me!!! (Maybe if I pop another pain pill I might give it a try.)

Am enjoying everyones entries, though.

Re: Challenge 448: Resurrecting Arthur Evans
Many excellent entries this week. First to resurrect the keeper was Josephine Harvatt, with a delicately tinted head - and, certainly, a boozer's nose and red-rimmed eyes. I like the real hair moustache, although I'm not sure losing his central parting really does him justice. I like the new robes in the second entry, but that Deco font seems a little too modern for a man whose career ended in 1908.

Good tinting from Lorenzo1977, with a neatly drawn couple of extra strands to the hair - makes it much more convincing. Some of his skin colour has leaked onto his collar, though - and that medallion needs to be gold, rather than brown.

Some splendid clothing textures from Frank, who has opted for a rather racy crocodile skin robe and a natty polka dot bow tie - and that's a very shiny medallion. Some rather extreme cracking on the forehead, though, and Arthur seems to be turning into Albert Einstein - is that snowy hair electric? A difficult challenge indeed!

When I first saw Ben Mills's entry, Enoch Powell jumped into my mind. Is the pose really that distinctive? The body certainly suits Arthur Evans well, but I'm not sure we can scribe Powell's rather objectionable politics to the keeper. Couple of small errors here, Ben: his left eye seems to have come adrift and has wandered in front of his nose; and there appears to be a lump of plasticine on the side of his head.

A dazzling entry from Artwel, with liberally applied borrowed skin texture that really brings Arthur Evans to life - and, indeed, gives him a life that goes beyond that expected of a keeper of the Ashmolean. Everything about him, from his swept-back hair to his rugged stubble, betokens a man of adventure - as the Indiana Jones version in the second entry makes clear. Excellent work!

Superb realism from tooquilos, with a terrific set of skin textures that give us a real sense of the man. I'd have tucked the monocle a little further behind the nose, to give the sense that he's holding it in place, but otherwise this is perfect. I really like the technique in the animated version - and that's particularly restrained music from you!

A subtle entry from James, catching Evans in mid lecture. You have to watch for a while before he looks at you and winks - I like the way animated GIFs can have that long delay built in. Is his hair dripping into his ear, though? I'd have had Arthur Evans more down as a short back and sides sort of chap.

A clever entry from Emy, placing the 'real' Arthur Evans against another shot of his bust - I like the way he's looking at it, although he does seem a little on the pale side. But I do like his suit!

There's a good skin-like texture to BigVern's entry, producing a very matt look that's quite different to the original marble. Some very fine individual strands really bring the hair to life, as well - but have you shaved off his moustache? I like the sparkle in his eyes. Your Arthur Evans has a real look of mischief about him.

A great array of eminent Victorians from puffin31939, with Arthur nestling among them. I particularly like the counterpoint between the old Evans and his younger self - a very clever, nicely achieved distinction. And a fine selection of centre partings! A curious second entry, which seems to be regressing Evans to an earlier state altogether. It very nearly works - perhaps slightly smoother skin, and a slightly less smooth outline on the hair? More working on it in the third entry - and he is starting to look more real, but as you say, shadow needed on the collar!

Delicate work from Deborah Morley, who has drawn in every hair on Arthur's head - very beautifully, too. You also seem to have robbed him of his moustache, though: or do you think that's just a bulbous upper lip?

A distinctly chirpy Evans from brewell, who's clearly delighted with his bust - unlike his grumpy companion, who looks especially miserable in that shot (although I think your raised eyebrow and sneering mouth makes HM the Q look even more grumpy than usual). Does she want her medal back?

A magnificent head of hair from Ben Boardman, with rather fine flowing locks. What's going on in the background, though? It appears to be assembled from an assortment of memorial texts that don't quite line up. Nothing wrong with using text, of course, but if you're going to do so you do need to ensure it makes some sort of sense!

A completely redrawn Evans from Mariner, who has captured the physiognomy well - and knocked a few decades off him in the process. The hair, though, does have rather the feel of a nylon wig to it - easily fixed by using a small brush with the Smudge tool to smear out some of those strands into a more organic shape.

Nicely drawn hair from Whaler, with very subtle skin shading - perhaps a little too subtle; the man looks positively anaemic. I don't understand what's going on with that shadow: it seems his body casts a shadow, but his head doesn't. Spooky!

Arthur Evans in a very different light from Garfield72, who has given him a cruel sneer. This is a very different man from the gentle curator of the original: the features are certainly similar in shape and proportion, but there's a dark undercurrent here that makes him look very untrustworthy.

I like the way darren's version is breaking out of his marble enclosure - with a far more racy Arthur Evans underneath (that goatee gives him a very rakish appearance). The years do seem to have dropped off him!
