Re: Challenge 449: The all-in-one device
First up this week was Ant Snell, with a clever Steve Jobs reference - horn speakers mounted on the sides, a roaring fire, and a couple of apples for good measure. Of course, this is an early iPhone in many ways - but shouldn't there be a telephone attached? And what's that sticking out of Jobs' head? A very evocative image from Kathryn, with the hifi system dumped in an alleyway. Beautifully blended into the scene, the perspective is great - a very clever piece of work. Ah, the dangers of open fires... brewell has a seriously cool dude in a pad that, frankly, I'd have loved in the 1970s, clearly a liar because his pants are, indeed, on fire. A great setting for the stereo system, which seems to have grown by about 50% in the process. Got to love those rounded doors! A splendid entry from Josephine Harvatt as Doctor Who's Tardis gets yet another makeover... and that leopardskin looks strangely at home in these baroque surroundings. I like the fez, of course, and the way one of the fireplaces has become a kennel for K9. And isn't that Tom Baker's scarf? A glorious IKEA catalogue from tooquilos, a perfect match for the original - and yes, Bring More Crap Into Your Home would be a great slogan for them. A good move, switching the fire for an oven and slotting in a microwave! I like the way you've done the product description in the animated version - and that's a powerful remote control! A great device! A very fine treatment from Frank, with a beautifully cleaned-up and restored cabinet - I like the reflection in the glass, and the way you've lit those side panels is perfect. And the girl certainly looks pleased with her new acquisition! A somewhat spectral Jimi Hendrix makes an appearance in Jota120's entry, with the cabinet slotted into a rather anachronistic setting - is that an LCD computer screen on the right? I like the evenness of colour here, but the time period and location seem a little at odds with the hifi, wouldn't you say? A clever restoration from James - I like the way the Tropicana carton is reflected in the mirror. Plenty of activity outside the window, and I like the hand that grabs the whisky just before the leopard leaps out of its den. Most of all, though - great period wallpaper! An extraordinary entry from Mariner, with a beautifully restored cabinet - complete with champagne and wine bottles, a new record deck, and some rather tasteful new wood veneer in place of that tatty leopardskin. there's so much extra detail here - the chair, tables, vases and other ornaments, and the reflection of me with a rather fine camera in the mirror behind the drinks... very nicely achieved, a thoroughly beautiful construction. Excellent work, Michael! A true period setting from Deborah Morley, into which the hifi blends perfectly, I like the cleaned-up elements, and the new fire (although, now I think of it, that is a damn odd place for a fireplace). I'd make it about 20% smaller, though, as it does seem to dwarf the armchair somewhat. A very groovy couple from Garfield72, in matching clothing - with fantastic wallpaper. I like the way it's reflected in the mirrored back to the cabinet. Perhaps a few drinks in front of it, to fill up that space? An interesting scene from marlcliff, as the cabinet is joined by a load of other outdated and soon-to-be-outdated entertainment devices - the DVD player, the CDs, the DVD screen unit, complete with junk aficionado Albert Steptoe. Good to see last week's statue in there too! Is that a very small skeleton, though? Or is the cabinet now huge? A spectacular scene from Darren, who has taken the leopardskin theme and run wild with it - tigerskin sofa, complete with tiger; a giraffe lamp; and a variety of hanging furry elements just for good measure. Some great work on the cabinet, too, with a new record deck and tape player. Darren, are you using Save for Web before posting your images? I'm sure you could get them a lot larger than this, if you drop the quality slightly. What an entertaining week! |

Re: Challenge 449: The all-in-one device
Thanks again Steve, Yes was meant to be anachronistic. I wanted to have Jimi spectral, but meant to have him a bit tidier, but all the interruptions were destroying my concentration and thought processes. There is something to be said for working late at night, peace, even if not as fresh (=mistakes), bad light and tiring.... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Well damn, Steve - you're early this week! I'm gonna submit my very poor excuse effort, anyway. Not much time this week between doctor visits...and it shows. Don't even ask what the heck it's about...it started out as a good idea....... _________________ "Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art........" Joseph Conrad |
