I must say you guys are a jolly bunch!!! Job well done. What a brave lady to hand over her portrait to a group of Photoshoppers. I choose to do a slight retouch before adding new eyeglasses. Time is running out this week but I thought I would share anyway. Kathryn ![]() |

Re: Challenge 453: Perspective specs
Productive indeed again this week all! I probably won't put another entry in, even though I had my mother pose later ![]() I really like our model so for my earlier entry I comment, she is "Heading out on the highway. Getting the motor running" Music -Stefan Wolf, sorry cant blend music with images like Anna can. http://www.listube.com/Artist/Stefan%20Wolf/ (Well once you've ridden motorbikes and as far and long as I have, as they say, its in your blood). Just for me maybe I like it a lot. Freedom...... Sorry quality of my image a bit poor this time, but hope consistent. |

Here's my entry this week. Hiding behind shades may give you the impression that nobody will know what you're looking at. In this case the mirror image in the glasses gives the lady away. ![]() _________________ Why? On the other hand, why not? |

This was tricky - I nearly threw in the towel. But having spent quite some time on it here it is for better or worse. ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Re: Challenge 453: Perspective specs
First to place the specs this week was Garfield72, with a pair of horn-rimmed beauties. We can see her irises in the middle of each lens, but is that right? Surely from this angle they should appear lower and to the right? Also - is there any glass in those lenses? The second entry is better, but I think they're still sloping down to the right. A purple fantasy from Sjef, neatly placed - but perhaps too far to the right? I like the tinting and the shadow, but since they're eyeglasses and not sunglasses, I'd expect to see some distortion through them. You've had fun with the second entry! A great effect from Tom, with some vast skiing goggles - I like the shadows especially. But I really want to yell: Behind you! Excellent glass effect from Frank, with delicate reflections. I'd say they're sitting rather too low on her face, though, and I'd like to see some distortion through the lenses. Splendid steampunk specs from Josephine Harvatt - a very elegant construction. But is the left lens lacking some depth? And I'd really like to see a shadow on her face. A whole range of elegant eyewear from Linda Eckert, as she models the latest (?) styles... I really like the way she's looking at us in the final example! Nice work. Not just glasses, but a terrific steampunk makeover from Ant Snell. Great glasses, a magnificent hat, but i have to say those earrings do look desperately uncomfortable. A great set of shadows all round. A neatly placed set of specs from sciteach, which appear entirely hand drawn - a good angle on them, and the shadow works well. Welcome back! A truly beautiful image from tooquilos, as Dame Edna takes over - a really magnificent treatment. Beautiful lettering in the animated version, and a great set of head replacements in those Edna Everage portraits, as well as all the other starring appearances. Nicely done - and what a lot of images you've worked up here! Barry Humphries would be proud. So is that a Jota120 in Jota120's entry? I like the appropriate body for the woman, and the neat fitting in of her face. Clever work. A complete makeover from Mariner, with a delicate pair of rimless specs and a rather startling crop of pure white hair. A great fit on the glasses, but some distortion through them would really help. A really funny entry from brewell, as our woman crams into a décolletage number for her balcony scene. And you can just make out the specs... excellent! Vibeke thinks her entry is boring - but it's a neat piece of work, with a great angle on the specs. I'd move them a little to the left, and add a slight shadow beneath them - and some distortion through the lenses! A vast pair of reflective specs from joeysala - and what a great reflection! Now that's a good way to publicise the book. The shadow on her face seems a little bright, though: surely the light through the lenses could only darken her skin, not brighten it? Very severe glasses from Deborah Morley, with some neat reflection. I especially like the way the hair comes over the arm at the side. But add a little distortion through the lenses. A clever newspaper front page from Darren, with our woman buried in sand and a Dame Edna transformation. It all works really well, except for the headline font. Bold sans serif is surely the tabloids' preferred choice! A funny entry from Lorenzo1977, with a comedy false nose and moustache attached to the glasses. The nose seems a little ragged at the edges, but otherwise this works well. No time for glasses from Kathryn, but a great cosmetic makeover: she's looking rather splendid! Hope you get time for those specs... A neat pair of specs from Ben Mills, perched neatly on the nose. The lighting is odd, though: they appear lit from below, when surely the lighting should be from above. And perhaps a touch of shadow beneath them? A striking entry from Whaler, with a sinister figure reflected in the huge glasses. Angle the arm down slightly so it points towards her ear - this one's shooting up rather. And that shadow is surely too far from the glasses, making them appear to be leaping off her face. But I do like the fact that they're all hand drawn, and the stylised second entry is splendid. A nice pair of hand-drawn specs from puffin31939, with a funky pair of arms. And - at last - some refraction through the lenses! Congratulations, you're the first one to do this. Are the glasses a little wonky, though? Sloping down to the right? A truly on-topic entry from michael sinclair, with a vast pair of mirror shades. Are they just too big for the face? And they seem to be leaning forwards slightly. I like the cigar, though; a puff of smoke might be nice. A neat set of reflective specs from Emy, against a great cruise background. But the lighting on her face needs to match the fact that the sun is shining from the left: you need much stronger shadows on the right to fit in this scene. Also, you do need to be aware of your viewpoints! We're looking up at the woman, but down on the cruise ship; the combination makes her appear to be falling over backwards. ______________________ This was another tricky Challenge, and it has produced some excellent solutions. One thing that surprised me is that no-one chose to refract the view of her face seen through the glasses: to me, that's an essential first step. I've written this up as a tutorial in the next edition of HotChiPs, and of course I'll be including all your splendid entries in this book. This is my solution to the problem: ![]() |

Thanks Steve. I did look at refraction, but couldn't see any in Richards glasses. Maybe I should have been wearing mine! |

Re: Challenge 453: Perspective specs
Thanks again Steve, no its not a Laverda Jota 120, but a Harley Davidson this time. Everyone for their own choice and I think she looks cool on it. The Laverda "Italian Stallion" pulls your arms off once you get above 40 mph, its off, hang on, I mean literately because it starts pulling more than a G and it just goes with a fantastic sound! The dropped handle bars put you in stooped prone stance, so did not think she would like, or more important get the face to fit ![]() |

Re: Challenge 453: Perspective specs
Thanks, Steve I'm sure the glasses are a bit wonky - I found placing them very difficult. They aren't hand drawn - that's beyond my artistic skills. I think they were the fifth of the images I tried from the net. One of the reasons I carried on with this challenge against the odds was because I wanted to put what I had learnt drawing the magnifying glass in the Desk Drawer project (100% Photoshop) into practice elsewhere. _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |
