Re: Challenge 454: All dolled up
First to decorate the room this week was Josephine Harvatt with a splendid wizard's catalogue, straight out of Harry Potter. And I like the lit candles! A great frame, although I'm not sure about the art deco font at the bottom. It took me a while digging around Photobucket to find the animated version - the correct link is the one I've used here. Very clever! I like how it starts as a line drawing. A great trio of witches from brewell, and the Early Facebook tag is a great one. Is that Jack Nicholson peering out of the cover? I like the way two of the witches are tucked behind the table, it puts them all into the scene. Of course, I know tooquilos wouldn't give up the chance to dive in - so here's a look at how the room may look when she's finished it. A good assortment of dolls, and those candle flames do bring the scene to life. But how are you going to achieve the mist? Spectacular effects in the animated version: the moving eyes, the shimmering titles, the close-up of the crystal ball with animated clouds, displaying a fisheye view of the whole house... and then seeing it in front of your real house at the end. Priceless! A wonderful entry from Frank, who has filled the room with loads more random objects - I like the bus stop and the cutlery! Those are some pretty scary dolls, though. No wonder Dad's running away. Splendid stuff. There's a story being told in Linda Eckert's intriguing entry: what is the nature of this couple's relationship? Even when she comes down to dinner stark naked, he still ignores her and reads his paper instead. I suspect she may be moving out before long. Ingenious animation (now how many times have I said that) from James, who moves the broom around (patching the side of the cupboard as it moves away) as well as the three skull candelabra, which is now shown to be behind the table and mounted on a tall stand - and casts a new shadow on the wall in its new location. Great attention to detail, and I really like the way the broom sweeps both behind and in front of the table. A charming entry from Emy, with all Anna's furniture transplanted to an old I Spy book. It's a really clever idea, and very well achieved: the integration of the scene into the background, and the foreground, is absolutely seamless. Perfect job. A trio of dolls from joeysala, bringing a good period feel to the witches - and I see they've brought their cat with them. A very good fit, with delicate use of shading to fix them in place. Perhaps a touch of shadow on the back of the chair? I like Deborah Morley's approach: Anna taking a consignment of dolls out of its box to place into the scene. i like the detail of the brown parcel tape, but surely it should be just on the outside of the lid, not on the inside as well? And in the torn-away section, isn't your shadow on the wrong side? An atmospheric scene from Garfield72, with a truly scary witch and a rather bemused looking child. I like the new candle lighting, although the witch needs to appear more back-lit than that - and the girl could do with a stronger shadow on the side away from the flame. Good to see Jimbean back after an absence - with a trio of decidedly spooky dolls. Great smoke effects, and some neat touches - such as the lit-up interior of the cupboard. But you need some shading on the dolls, to match the background! Has Jota120 turned his witches into parrots? Or have they turned themselves? And are there three holes in the table to accommodate their tails? I like the new painting, the witch in the background and the frog - but does that doll in the foreground need to be livened up a little? An entertaining entry from BigVern, with added Barbie, stretchy man (forgot his name) and a bear that fits rather perfectly at that table. I'd like to have seen where you were going with this, Vern! A tale of domestic woe from marlcliff - shame about Ken and Barbie! You need to watch your cutouts, Phill, she's looking a little rough around the edges. Are you using the Quick Selection tool, with Refine Edge? It's very good at smoothing this sort of image. Great entries all round this week. And thanks, Anna, for the loan of your kitchen! |

Thanks Steve. Stretch Armstrong is his name (aah the memories of pulling his arms and legs to impossible lengths and then watching him slowly returning to normal shape. That is until fatugue set in and he split spilling his foul goo everywhere!). That was wednesday and I played with Lego on Thursday ![]() I had no great plans for completing the image other that adding in some more random toys and various bric-a-brac and playing around with the lighting some more. I wasn't happy with the edges of the teddy and the colours of the barbie photo and stretchy ... but life got in the way of HotChiPS. Cheers Vern _________________ "Check out the big brain on Brett!" |

"A charming entry from Emy, with all Anna's furniture transplanted to an old I Spy book. Perfect job." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Steve, thank you for your review. I did not transplanted Anna's furniture in an old I spy book, I transplanted each separate item to Anna's furniture picture: all the toys in the floor are separate, each doll on the floor, the wall, the books in the wall are separate, the I Spy title is separate and the I Spy items to search are separate...I put them all together in Anna's picture. I am glad you like it, I had a great time doing it!. |

Re: Challenge 454: All dolled up
Thanks again Steve, and thanks to Anna also ![]() > Has Jota120 turned his witches into parrots? Or visa-versa .. >Or have they turned themselves? I think after you see my next comment, yes they have(?) > And are there three holes in the table to accommodate their tails? Very good point. I checked back to original image. It makes me feel quite sick, on closer examination which I did not notice before, they have clipped the wings and the tails to stop them flying away. Often done to captive birds. Makes me feel quite sick, but more, I don't know why they did the tails as well, apart from hygiene maybe . >I like the new painting, the witch in the background and the frog - but does that doll in the foreground need to be livened up a little? The doll was really bright originally so I tried to calm her down: maybe too much. I was trying to balance the image. Maybe she had been handled a lot travelling around the house ![]() Maybe, visa-versa they are all white witches, but the black witch is levitating through the door...... ! |
