I was going for a hall of mirrors effect but not sure I managed it.

Critics say it only works going backwards.

Seems to have become semi transparent .., at least compared to her son's.... They predicted the end of the Earth, but they and us (generalized) still here as far as I know.

Sorry about the quality. I'd scanned in from negative 1986 and then started to destroy the image quality of sphere image, as you do, to make compatible(?).

Is this how the universe as we know it started? This is a new Big Bang theory. The real question is; Who made the sphere and from what ....?

Edit: Just like Jota in the picture below I used Astronomy Picture of the Day from June 7 2013, courtesy of NASA, which features the Butterfly Nebula. You'll find that and other astronomy pictures here http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html. Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

Re: Challenge 457: The celestial sphere
Mmm.. interesting works folks....

The original high-tech stellar/solar navigation aid helping return to Mother Earth through space and time......

Mission Home! (Or as Fireball XL5 robot would say "on our way home". I think Gordon et al remember.... !)

Maybe: Re-entry from "A Galaxy of Dreams". Hawkwind. Actually "More than this" Brian Ferry, Roxy Music ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktMXLB8irwc): I mean this http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/1306/butterfly_hst_big.jpg or http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130607.html and my photos, with lots of help from PS and I guess my imagination, but I do love Art!

Great entries everyone.
Thought I'd go back to an old Challenge that I always meant to add to.

Sorry Whaler, I did not mean to overlap with you, but it was work in progress here and only saw your entry later, which I really like

Maybe more interesting we drifted in the same direction! In less than a few Light Years

Either way the results were very different, but I love yours! I understand. I prefer yours, but the art part of me (+physics) and PS took me away, and with my photos, why not ..... I enjoyed the FC,.. having given three contributions, I must be quiet now ...

Great Whaler!,

Trevor

Some really great ideas and beautiful images this week.

My effort is dedicated to that great fantasy/comedy writer Terry Pratchett who has entertained me greatly over the years and who is now suffering from a terrible condition.

Great Whaler!,

Trevor

It is a small world and I have no problem with this, Trevor! It was an evocative celestial image we both found and we put it to work in different ways in our entries and I'm not sure all would have noticed that it was the same background unless it was pointed out. I really like the way you used it! It almost feels like you're being sucked into eternity (or to the end of the universe, if you like...) by looking at it. Excellent work!

Hans-Erik

Many thanks Kathryn.
Have just noticed that I have not altered the colour on the females hand, and rather a way away from my computer.
Vern, love the cascading water.

Nothing is wasted when it's recycled. The second pic shows a bit of class: Campagnolo "Sheriff Star"-C-Record (circa 1980s).

joeysala,
Great image. Quite evocative. It could be a scene from a movie that I would watch.
