Re: Challenge 467: Boeing Boeing
There's a strong blue tint to this week's starting image, produced by all that blue lighting. Those of you who tinted their placed objects to match had more success than those who didn't: if you were wondering why it was hard to blend items into the scene, then the colour is probably the reason. A festive scene from Garfield72 started the week's proceedings, with well-placed champagne bottles, notices and decorations. But see the colour note above: those people are just too pink! A splendid image from brewell, using characters from the 1960s film The Odd Couple, which I strongly urge you to see. (You can also see that Homer Simpson scene here. As in the film, the meticulous Felix (played by Jack Lemmon) is aghast at Oscar's messiness - which here involves food and other items flying around the capsule. A masterful piece of work - and look how well the blue tint on the heads and bodies helps them to blend into the scene. A few real astronauts from Jota120, or at least trainee astronauts in freefall. I like all the orange blobs, whatever they are - but there does seem to be a huge size variation, even accounting for perspective. I like Ben Mills's idea of setting the craft within a fully branded Tardis - complete not just with NASA decal, but the licence plate of the Starship Enterprise as well. I think Seven of Nine could do with shadow, though, particularly around her feet - and if one foot is on the step, wouldn't the knee need to be bent? A good sleeping tramp from Marlcliff, and I like the extras - the traffic cone, the trash bags, and the guy in the distance. That Athena tennis poster looks rather out of place - try toning down the colours! A large array of distractions for the bored astronaut in tooquilos's entry, including a wide range of sports gear and a couple of animals. I like the XBox package, and the posters. With the Breathe sticker, though, bear in mind that the wall it's on is probably white, so tone it down to match - or set its mode to Multiply. I like the cartoon cleaner in the animated version - as well as Buzz Lightyear, the Jetsons and the Enterprise towards the end, and of course the fantastic Pink Floyd soundtrack. A grisly Alien scene from Deborah Morley, complete with icky dripping slime and heavily shadowed lighting. A very fine piece of work - and that H R Giger certainly knew how to put an alien together. Excellent integration of the bar into the image from Emy, with perfect matching of the lighting and a good stab at that tricky perspective. I'd have taken out the two seats in the background, which throw the sense of scale out; and shouldn't that curious perforated cylinder on the right be in front of the background, rather than behind it? A very entertaining image from Ben Boardman, with much self-assembly from the pre-assembled cast - a nice idea! And grafting Snoopy's head onto the robot dog is briliant. Very neat! A number of family members from Vibeke, including a rather cute view of a girl looking into a telescope. Couple of things: the very extreme perspective of the trio in the foreground, and the woman with the laptop, could only be seen if they were much closer to the camera; and do watch those bright colours! Here's how it looks with the skin tones matched to the background: ![]() Some nicely integrated mess from Josephine Harvatt, with a range of detritus cluttering up the scene. Looks just like home... |

Thanks Steve. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were true masters of their craft. Their uniforms were made from the shirts they were wearing. _________________ The journey of a thousand hours begins with a single layer. |

Thanks again Steve. I think perspective is ok(?), subjective maybe, but like the feedback. Those are orange ping-pong balls going through a few seconds of weightlessness. |
